The new variety, named MAIA-Z is distinct from Goldrush as MAIA-Z ripens late-September, 3 weeks before Goldrush. Unlike Goldrush, MAIA-Z has red skin with yellow ground color. MAIA-Z is distinct from Sweet 16 as MAIA-Z ripens 2 weeks after Sweet 16 and will retain crispness and flavor in normal storage for 20 weeks longer than Sweet 16. The fruit of MAIA-Z adheres to the tree for approximately 6-7 weeks past fruit maturity, while Sweet 16 fruit will abscise from the tree within 2 weeks of maturity. MAIA-Z fruit are large sized, crisp, with pleasant sweet-tart flavor and long storability.

The new variety, named MAIA-T, is distinct from Honeycrisp as MAIA-T ripens mid-September, 2 weeks after Honeycrisp. Unlike Honeycrisp, MAIA-T has purple skin, yellow ground color, and considerable russet. MAIA-T fruit are medium sized, crisp, with more complex, sweet-tart flavors than Honeycrisp. MAIA-T does not maintain crisp texture in 35 F. storage for as long as Honeycrisp.
APPLE TREE NAMED MAIA-L
A new and distinct variety of apple was identified from a population of seedlings derived from an open-pollinated Honeycrisp block. The new variety, named MAIA-L ripens late-October. MAIA-L is a fast-growing, vigorous tree with large leaves. The fruit of MAIA-L is a distinctive deep red color. MAIA-L has consistent annual cropping with minimal horticultural inputs and is resistant to fireblight, apple scab, and powdery mildew. MAIA-L fruit are large sized, extremely crisp, with complex sweet-tart flavor and long storability.
Apple tree named ‘PE’
A new and distinct apple tree (Malus domestica) named PE. PE is a spontaneous limb mutation of Cripps Pink and is distinguished by its very early full pink-red color over the entire fruit surface, even in shaded areas of the limb. PE is also distinguished from its parent by its early maturity, reddish-brown wood color on the sunny side, very large level of leaf anthocyanin, high levels of young fruit anthocyanin, and high intensity of Pink-Red overcolor. The pattern of overcolor is solid blush. Leaf blade incisions are serrate type 1, there are fewer lenticels on one-year-old wood, and leaf blade length and width are also smaller than for the parent.
