A system operating in a vehicle includes a lidar module, a camera, and a controller communicatively coupled to the camera and the lidar module. The lidar module includes: a light source configured to emit pulses of light, a scanner configured to direct the emitted pulses of light in accordance with a scan pattern to illuminate a field of regard of the lidar module, and a receiver configured to detect the emitted pulses of light scattered by one or more remote objects to capture a set of lidar pixels of a scan frame, in a sequence defined by the scan pattern. The camera has a field of view that at least partially overlaps the field of regard of the lidar module. The controller is configured to cause the camera to capture multiple images while the receiver of the lidar module captures the set of lidar pixels of the scan frame.

A system and method is provided for calibrating a portable vehicle sensor which is releasably mountable to a vehicle at least at a first and a second position on the vehicle, wherein the first and second positions are offset from each other. Disclosed is a thermal-based automatic roller tracking and mapping system for roller path tracking and mapping in pavement compaction. Accuracy in estimation during roller position tracking and mapping for pavement compaction through the use of thermal imaging is achieved. The tracking and mapping system utilizes an infrared camera for automatic roller path tracking and mapping in pavement construction. The tracking and mapping data associated with the movement of the roller vehicle during compaction of the surface can be generated and visually represented in a user interface accessible to the operator of the roller vehicle. Based on the tracking and mapping data that is generated in real-time and presented to the operator in the user interface, the operator can make adjustments to the roller vehicle and path, as necessary.

One embodiment of the present invention discloses a process of providing a report predicting potential risks relating to an operator driving a vehicle using information obtained from various interior and exterior sensors, vehicle onboard computer (“VOC”), and cloud network. After activating interior and exterior sensors mounted on a vehicle operated by a driver for obtaining data relating to external surroundings and internal environment, the data is forwarded to VOC for generating a current fingerprint associated with the driver. The current fingerprint represents current driving status in accordance with the collected real-time data. Upon uploading the current fingerprint to the cloud via a communications network, a historical fingerprint which represents historical driving information associated with the driver is retrieved. In one aspect, the process is capable of generating a driving analysis report which predicts potential risks associated with the driver according to the current and historical fingerprints.
