METHOD FOR MAINTAINING TOTAL BRAKING POWER OF A TRAIN WHILE TAKING THE AVAILABLE FRICTION CONDITIONS INTO CONSIDERATION

The invention relates to a method for maintaining total braking power of a rail vehicle while taking the available friction conditions into consideration. The method includes recognizing that at least one unit is wheel-slide controlled; retrieving the type of friction prevailing on the wheel-slide controlled units; determining the values 0 and K0 for each unit that is wheel-slide controlled; forming a function for the value 0 and a function for the value K0, in each case over the entire length of the units comparing the actual braking request in each of the units, to the function of the value K0, and changing each braking request in each of the units, towards the respective value of the function of K0.

Devices, systems, and methods are described that provide an braking system for a motor vehicle. The braking system extends a friction device from beneath the vehicle to contact the driving surface. Orientation of the friction device and forces applied to the braking device can be adjusted during the braking procedure.

In some braking devices forces generated during braking are directed to a load bearing arm and supporting frame, thereby minimizing damage to actuating devices. The friction device can be retracted after use, permitting normal vehicle operation.
