A remotely-engaging handle for a fifth wheel hitch system is provided. The remotely-engaging handle may comprise a body and a latching assembly that may be securely attached to the body and capable of engaging with a fifth wheel hitch. The latching assembly may comprise a locking member and an actuating member. The actuation of the actuating member may position a portion of the locking member from an unlocked position to a locked position. The locking member may comprise a latching arm rotating about a pivot point and a biasing member operatively attached the body. The biasing member may bias the locking member into a transitory position. In one embodiment, the actuating member may further comprise an electrically-operated button or a software-based interface. In particular embodiment, the locking member may further actuated by a solenoid and the connecting member may further comprise a wireless device.

A fifth wheel hitch may include at least one support frame capable of engaging with a towing vehicle. The fifth wheel hitch may further include a cross-member attached to the support frame and an isolation system operatively coupled with the cross-member. The isolation system may include a beam engaged with the cross-member about a first axis, where rotation of the beam about the first axis is dampened via a cross-member isolator. The isolation system may also include a skid plate engaged with the beam about a second axis, where rotation of the skid plate about the second axis is dampened via a wing isolator.

A fifth wheel includes a fifth wheel plate, a plug, a drive, and a guide arrangement for the plug, wherein the fifth wheel plate has a semi-trailer surface that has an outwardly pointing normal, that is parallel to a vertical direction wherein the fifth wheel plate has an insertion opening that extends in an insertion direction, wherein the plug is displaceable by the drive from a first, in particular retracted, position into a second position, in particular an extended position, wherein the plug is guided from the first position into the second position and/or from the second position into the first position by the guide arrangement, wherein an offset in the vertical direction and in the insertion direction is present between the first position and the second position.

A coupling system for a fifth wheel coupling includes a first plug unit having a plurality of first plug connectors, and a second plug unit having a plurality of second plug connectors to engage and transmit power and/or fluid with the first plug connectors, and an adjuster unit having a guide section configured to be brought into engagement with a retaining element on one of the plug units to transmit a force from the adjuster unit to the plug unit, which displaces the plug unit along a plug-in axis, wherein the adjuster unit can be displaced transversely and laterally to the plug-in axis or can be rotated about the plug-in axis.

A connection system for use on a fifth-wheel coupling includes first and second connection units each including a carrier unit and a plug-in unit each having a coupling axis and mounted on the respective carrier unit so as to be able to pivot about a respective pivot axis, a, the first and second plug-in units respectively including a coupling region of an electrical line element and/or a fluid-conveying line, the second connection unit mounted on a semi-trailer to be pivotable about a pivot axis such that the second connection unit can be moved into a coupling position, wherein the second pivot axis extends parallel to the first pivot axis when the second connection unit is in the coupling position, and wherein the first coupling axis is essentially collinear with the second coupling axis if the first and second plug-in units are in the coupling position.

A fifth wheel hitch assembly includes a fifth wheel hitch plate having a body portion and a pair of extensions extending outwardly from the body portion, wherein the extensions cooperate to form a throat therebetween, a locking arrangement moveable between an unlocked position where a kingpin may be moved into and out of the throat, and a locked position where the kingpin is prevented from being removed from within the throat, and a sensor arrangement that includes at least one sensor located within at least one component of the locking arrangement, wherein the at least one sensor includes an accelerometer configured to sense vibrational movement of the at least one component of the locking arrangement.

A cargo vehicle is disclosed having a composite floor assembly with at least one embedded hardpoint connector. The embedded connector may be used to securely couple other vehicle components to the composite floor assembly, such as a coupler assembly with a king pin.

An upper coupler for a semi-trailer has a generally planar bottom plate. A kingpin attaches thereto to couple with a fifth wheel of a tractor. A reinforcement member extends across a width of the bottom plate to reduce bending of the bottom plate as it rests on the fifth wheel of the tractor.
