AUTOMATIC PULL TESTS FOR ARTICULATED VEHICLES
A method for automatically verifying a coupling between a tractor and a first trailer unit, the method comprising engaging a wheel brake on the first trailer unit, generating a propulsion torque by the tractor, determining a first coupling force between the tractor and the first trailer unit, and verifying the coupling between the tractor and the first trailer unit based on the determined first coupling force.
Method for coupling a trailer to a towing vehicle, coupling control device and vehicle
A method for coupling a semi-trailer with a top plate to a truck tractor with a coupling plate includes: importing a reference height profile assigning a reference gradient to different actual values for the relative height of the chassis to the rear axle of the truck-tractor; changing the relative height such that the coupling plate approaches the top plate; continuously determining actual height values and height gradients while changing the relative height, wherein an actual height value is assigned the currently determined actual height gradient; checking a coupling criterion by comparing a currently determined actual height gradient with the reference gradient, wherein the reference gradient which in the imported reference height profile is assigned to the same actual height value as the currently determined actual height gradient is applied; and, maintaining the relative height when the currently determined actual height gradient deviates from the reference gradient.

CONNECTING SYSTEM AND TRACTOR LINKAGE
A connecting system may be included for connecting tractor utility interfaces to corresponding trailer utility interfaces. Without limitation, the connecting system may include a trailer adapter that has a trailer adapter connector and a fastener, where the trailer adapter is configured to be releasably connected to the respective trailer utility interfaces, and where the fastener is configured to releasably fasten the trailer adapter to the trailer. The connecting system may also include a tractor adapter that has a tractor adapter connector and a positioning device, where the tractor adapter connector is configured to be connected to the respective tractor utility interfaces, and where the positioning device is configured to automatically move the tractor adapter connector in relation to the tractor in order to position the tractor adapter connector on the trailer adapter connector to obtain a functional connection between the respective utility interfaces.
NON-CONTACT SENSOR ARRANGEMENT FOR FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY
An electronic system for monitoring a trailer hitch assembly having a hitch plate with a throat for receiving a kingpin of a trailer and a locking mechanism for locking the kingpin in the throat, the electronic system determining whether the trailer hitch assembly is properly coupled to the trailer and including a plurality of magnets each creating a magnetic flux, at least one Hall-effect sensor for sensing the position of a kingpin of a trailer relative to the throat of the hitch plate by measuring the magnetic flux, and a circuit member comprising a magnetically permeable material, wherein the plurality of magnets, the at least one Hall-effect sensor, and the circuit member are each in series with one another.
Systems and methods for automatic air and electrical connections on autonomous cargo vehicles
The technology relates to autonomous vehicles having hitched or towed trailers for transporting cargo and other items between locations. Aspects of the technology provide a smart hitch connection between the fifth-wheel of a tractor unit and the kingpin of a trailer. This avoids requiring a person to make physical pneumatic and electrical connections between the fifth-wheel and kingpin using external hoses and cables. Instead, the necessary connections are made internally, autonomously. For instance, the fifth-wheel may provide air pressure via one or more slots arranged on a connection surface, and the trailer is configured to receive the air pressure through one or more openings on a contact surface of the kingpin. An electrical connection section of the fifth-wheel may also provide electrical signals and/or power to an electrical contact interface of the kingpin. Rotational information about relative alignment of the trailer to the tractor unit may also be provided.
APPARATUSES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING AND VERIFYING OPERATIONAL STATES OF FIFTH WHEELS
Apparatuses, systems, and methods for determining and verifying operational states of fifth wheels. Certain methods for determining the operational state of the fifth wheel may include sensing, with at least one sensor, magnetic flux caused by a magnet on a movable component movable to lock the fifth wheel to a kingpin of a towed vehicle and determining an end position of the movable component based on the magnetic flux. The end position of the movable component is then compared to a threshold position and an operational state of the fifth wheel is determined based on the comparison of the end position of the movable component to the threshold position.
Coupling component, system for coupling and method for mounting a coupling component
A cantilevered coupling component for an interface area between a semitrailer and a tractor unit, which can be releasably connected to one another in the interface area by a pin element, the coupling component including a pin-side connection area for pivotally mounting the coupling component on the pin element, and a rail-side connection area for slidable mounting along a translation direction of the coupling component on a rail of the semitrailer.

TRAILER HAVING UTILITY LINE RACEWAY
A cargo trailer includes a plurality of walls defining a cargo area, the walls including a front wall facing a rear of a tractor when the cargo trailer is coupled to the tractor. A recessed cavity is provided at a forward side of the front wall. A plurality of utility line connectors are positioned at least partially within the recessed cavity for establishing connections between at least one utility source of the tractor and at least one utility component of the cargo trailer. The plurality of utility line connectors are spaced vertically above a bottom wall of the recessed cavity.
