A linear drive system adapted for repetitive driving using a linear motor. The drive system may be used to power pumping hydrofoils which drive a boat or ship. Linkages are used to maintain the driven portion in linear motion. A coupled dual drive system in which two driven portions are coupled such that their coupled motions travel at the same velocity in opposed directions. The coupled linear drive system which may be used as a mechanical power source for drive systems used in transportation and industry. A boat with dual pumping hydrofoils adapted for propel a boat using the hydrofoils for both lift and propulsion.

PROPULSION POD FOR AN ELECTRIC WATERCRAFT

Disclosed is a passively cooled waterproof propulsion unit for a watercraft is provided comprising a substantially cylindrical housing including an outer wall having an external surface and an internal surface. The cylindrical housing includes a first end cap attached at a first end of the housing. The first end cap includes an attachment interface configured to be mounted to a strut of a watercraft such that at least a portion of the external surface of the outer wall of the housing is configured to contact a fluid surrounding the housing when the watercraft operates within the fluid. The propulsion unit further includes an electric motor disposed with in the housing and an electronic speed controller. The electronic speed controller is electrically coupled to the electric motor and configured to provide electrical power to the electric motor to operate the electric motor.

Waterproof container having a waterproof electrical connector

A watercraft and a waterproof electronics container are provided. The watercraft includes a flotation portion. A strut is removably affixed to a portion of the watercraft. A first connector portion is mounted to the upper end of the strut. A waterproof electronics container includes a second connector portion is disposed such that the second connector forms at least one electrically conductive pathway with the first connector portion when both are affixed to the watercraft. The waterproof electronics container is removably affixed to the said watercraft. In one aspect, the waterproof electronics container houses a power source capable of powering an electric motor that propels the watercraft.

Anisotropically flexible vibration isolating coupling mechanism

A flexible coupling mechanism may be used to suspend a structural component, such as a propulsion pod, from a support member, such as a strut of a hydrofoil watercraft. The flexible coupling mechanism may include multiple vibration isolating mounts configured to extend through the support member to suspend the structural component. The vibration isolating mounts may include a plurality of elastomeric bushings configured to prevent direct contact between a component rigidly coupled to the support member and a component rigidly coupled to the structural component. The elastomeric bushings may include a tapered outer profile configured to provide a nonlinear force feedback profile in response to rotation of the support member relative to the structural component.

Water sports boat with foil displacement system

A foil displacement system includes one or more foils that can be deployed and stowed. When deployed, each foil can exert downforce or uplift depending on its orientation. For example, each foil may be positioned to have an angle of attack that creates a downward force effectively transmitted to the hull to pull the hull deeper within the water to, for example, create a larger wake. Use of the foil displacement system can enhance or replace the use of a ballast tank system, can be integrated into a new boat or retrofitted to existing boats, can be electronically or manually positioned, can enhance activities such as wake surfing, wake boarding, water skiing or other similar or related water sports.

Human Powered Hydrofoil Vehicle and Use Method

The human powered hydrofoil bicycle includes multiple subsystems integrated together including a structural frame subsystem with associated steering and tiller module, a hydrofoil subsystem to provide vehicle lift, and a powertrain subsystem. The structural frame subsystem may be fitted with buoyancy modules to provide the overall vehicle with a near neutrally buoyant character. The structural frame subsystem also supports a seat for an operator and provides structural support for the steering and tiller module for the hydrofoil subsystem and the drivetrain subsystem. The hydrofoil subsystem includes multiple hydrofoil elements at lowermost portions of the vehicle. These hydrofoil elements generally include in a preferred embodiment a larger rear foil and a smaller front foil. The powertrain subsystem generally includes pedals rotatably supported on the vehicle at a convenient location for engagement and driving by feet of an operator. Power transmission elements extend from the pedals down to a prime mover such as a propeller.

A foil, such as an aerofoil, having a leading edge and a trailing edge, of which at least a portion of one or both of the leading edge and trailing edge has a serrated profile comprising a plurality of adjoining teeth, each tooth having a tip point that represents a local maximum chord-wise extent of the tooth and, on each side span-wise of the tip point, a root point that represents a local minimum chord-wise extent of the tooth and at which the tooth adjoins a respective adjacent tooth, wherein the tooth edge profile varies with an ogee-like curve between tip point and root point such that the tooth is sharper in the neighbourhood of the tip point and in the neighbourhood of the root point than at locations in between.

UNDERWATER GLIDER

In an underwater glider, stability and versatility can be enhanced by the use of a high wing design. In a high wing design, a centerline of the wings extending from the sides of the body of the glider are located above a relative centerline of the body of the glider. The relative centerline of the wings may rise continuously from a region where the wings attach to the body to respective ends of the wings. In particular for a blended wing glider, a top surface of the glider is level in a line extending between ends of each wing.

This disclosure extends to systems, apparatus, and methods for hydrofoil assemblies with components that may be constructed from multiple materials to achieve reduced weight and/or portion with relatively less rigidity. In one exemplary system, a planing blade has as underlying framework or first structural body including rib elements that define voids. The first structural body may be formed from a relatively stiff and rigid first material to provide strength and rigidity to the component. The voids are filled and at least a portion of the framework covered by a second relatively softer and more flexible material. The second material may cover one or more edges of the planning blade. In some embodiments, a mast member may have a structural member formed from a relatively stiff and rigid first material with at least a portion of the member covered by a second relatively softer and more flexible material.
