According to the present invention, a method and an apparatus are provided for creating an opening in the calcified shell of an incubated bird egg containing an embryo, in the region of the blunt end of the incubated bird egg. Within the region of the blunt end there is an outer membrane and an inner membrane with an air cell located therebetween. The apparatus comprises a holder on which the incubated bird eggs are stored with their pointed ends facing downwards, wherein the embryo adjoins the inner membrane, a first detection device configured to detect the position and geometry of the air cell, and an opening device configured to create an opening in the calcified shell at the blunt end of the incubated bird egg above the taut inner membrane. Due to the open calcified shell, the sex of the embryo may be determined in a reliable way.

The present invention relates to a method for sampling an egg, the method comprising; a) fluid coupling an interior of the egg to a source of pressure, b) controlling the pressure in the interior of the egg by the source of pressure, c) expelling an amount of fluid, in particular allantoic fluid, from the interior of the egg to the exterior of the egg as a result of the pressure in the interior of the egg, and d) collecting at least a portion of the amount of fluid at the exterior surface of the egg.

PHEROMONE COMPOSITION

To produce chicks from hatching eggs, the eggs are incubated in a hatcher incubator. After hatching, chicks of lesser quality are screened out, and the remaining chicks are transferred to a poultry barn. During the first week in the barn, a number of chicks are lost. When the loss rate exceeds a certain value, treatment with antibiotics is usually applied. Methods and compositions for reducing the loss rate during the first week and thus the number of antibiotic treatments are disclosed. The methods include providing in the air of the hatcher incubator at least during a final stage of the incubation and hatching of the eggs in the hatcher incubator, an active amount of a pheromone composition with the appeasing effect of the mother hen pheromone. The pheromone composition can be applied in the hatcher incubator at a specific height in the form of a formulation.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR TREATING POULTRY EGGS USING ELECTRON BEAMS TO STERILISE THE CALCAREOUS SHELL
20190200579 · 2019-07-04 · ·

The invention relates to a method and a device for treating poultry eggs with an electron beam bundle to sterilize the calcareous shell, with the following steps: moving at least one egg through the beam path of an electron beam source, irradiating the eggs, whereby the calcareous shell is irradiated with a varying dose,
characterized by the following steps: carrying out an irradiation encompassing all regions of the calcareous shell of the egg by means of the electron beam bundle, whereby an element is inserted into the path of the electron beam bundle to distribute the irradiation over all regions of the calcareous shell, whereby owing to the dose being set within a predefined target dose range, the calcareous shell is comprehensively irradiated, or carrying out an irradiation of a rolling/rolled egg by means of the electron beam source in the path of the electron beam bundle, or carrying out an irradiation of the held eggs by means of the electron beam source in the path of the electron beam bundle at a zero degree position of the one side in a device arranged upstream of a turning device.

METHODS FOR PROMOTING PRODUCTION OF FEMALE EMBRYOS IN EGGS

The present invention relates to a method for promoting production of female embryos in fertilized eggs, comprising steps of: incubating said eggs; generating at least one type of energy with a predetermined energy profile; and simultaneously generating a pre-determined profile of a non-energy parameter by means of an energy generation device, applying both energy profile and the non-energy parameter to the eggs; and, collecting the eggs; wherein said method is non-toxic to the embryos, the application of both the energy profile and the non-energy parameter increases the fraction of females in the hatched chicks.

Indexing system for an in ovo injection apparatus, and associated method

An indexing system for an in ovo injection apparatus is provided. Such an indexing system provides a positioning scheme for an egg carrier carrying a plurality of avian eggs to an injection assembly for injection thereof. The indexing system includes an initial stop provided to abut the trailing end of the egg carrier to form a first egg carrier position such that a first subset of the plurality of avian eggs is injected. An intermediate stop is provided to abut the trailing end of the egg carrier to form a second egg carrier position such that a second subset of the plurality of avian eggs is injected. An associated method is also provided.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IN OVO SEXING OF AVIAN EMBRYOS
20190174726 · 2019-06-13 ·

A system for determining the gender and/or fertility status of avian eggs including a sampling apparatus and an electromagnetic radiation transmitter and detector. In certain embodiments, the transmitter operates in the terahertz range. The sampling apparatus can be coupled to an avian egg. The sampling apparatus includes a vacuum source, a gas collection device, and a membrane that can be positioned in the passageway coupling the vacuum source to the gas collection device. The membrane is capable of capturing volatile organic compounds. The sampling apparatus applies a vacuum from the vacuum source to the gas proximate to the avian egg and directs the gas captured from the vicinity of the egg toward the membrane. Subsequently, the membrane is positioned within the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the transmitter, generating a spectrum which can be analyzed to determine whether the egg is fertile or infertile, and if fertile, whether the egg is male or female. In an embodiment, the captured volatile organic compounds are transferred to a sample chamber where the captured gas is analyzed.
