A dark-out apparatus is provided for use with a ventilation fan disposed on the wall of an agricultural building for passing ventilation air from one side to the other. The dark-out apparatus includes light-trapping media and first and second door members for holding the light-trapping media and being movable between open and closed positions and being openable away from the wall. When in the closed positions, the first and second door members cover a ventilation port of the fan, and when in the open positions, the first and second door members expose the ventilation port. When in the closed positions, distal sides of the first and second door members define an air gap. The air gap allows ventilation air to pass through, but does not allow ambient exterior light to pass through.

A vent with an adjustable baffle is disclosed. As the baffle is rotated away from the frame of the vent a corresponding opening is formed though which air may flow. The vent further has features which constrict the width of the opening in response to how far the baffle is opened. When the baffle is partially opened, these constricting features block a portion of the vent opening resulting in an opening of a certain width. The baffle can be opened further to a point beyond the constricting feature so that a wider vent opening is created. The design allows for more, and easier control of air flow in a system and can increase the distance air coming though the vent moves into the space before it descends.

A Pipe and Strap Operating Drive System (PSODS) is disclosed which efficiently and accurately positions a blocker, or door mechanism, over an opening that is of exact or similar profile and dimensions as the door mechanism. In the preferred embodiment, PSODS is used to vary the position of a poultry house ventilation blocker or door mechanism from a tightly-closed position against the opening, or when required, within a certain range of door mechanism open positions, as dictated by weather conditions or internal air quality. Essentially, the inventive concept featuring PSODS utilizes at least one strap, wherein a first end of each strap is wound about a length of pipe, termed a pipe drive. The second end of the strap is attached proximate an upper edge of the door mechanism. As the pipe drive is rotated, the attached strap(s) control movement of the door mechanism toward a closed or open position.

Animal House Climate Control System and Method for Operating an Air Inlet of the Animal House using Timed Inlet Control

An animal house climate control system uses a method for operating a baffle of an air inlet of an animal house with a motor using timed inlet control. The method includes performing a calibration sequence to calculate opening velocity and opening inertia values and closing velocity and closing inertia values. The method also includes moving the baffle from an initial position to a final position by calculating a calculated power on time for the motor using the opening inertia or closing inertia values. The method can also include calculating a real position error value by comparing the calculated on time for the motor and a measured on time for the motor and using the real position error value to calculate adjusted opening and closing velocity values.
