RECUPERATIVE JET DRIVE
20200156750 · 2020-05-21 ·

A method and device is provided for increasing the efficiency of jet drives by recuperating effective power from the propulsion flow. A ducted propeller in the propeller housing, driven by a driving engine via a drive shaft, conveys the fluid for the jet drive out of the interior V.sub.i of a radial turbine . The fluid is accelerated axially and ejected backwards against the direction of travel. This creates thrust. Because the pressure in the interior of the turbine decreases, new fluid from the environment flows directly via the blades of the rotating radial turbine from the outside to the inside, thereby driving them. A guide apparatus is missing. The power of the radial turbine is transmitted via a transmission to the drive shaft of the propeller, which relieves the driving engine and increases the efficiency of the jet drive. The invention is particularly suitable for electric drives.

A marine ducted propeller mass flux propulsion system that comprises: an intake section; an impeller/confusor/stator section; a discharge section; a passage extending from an intake opening of the intake section to an outlet of the discharge section, the passage having a length and an axial cross-sectional area, the passage capable of creating a flow path for a water stream on a volumetric basis; and a plurality of internal working parts, the plurality of internal working parts being at least partially accommodated within the passage, wherein the axial cross-sectional area of the passage is increased and decreased throughout the length of the passage to accommodate a volumetric mass of the plurality of the internal working parts while maintaining a constant water volume from the intake opening of the intake section to the outlet of the discharge section.

WATERJET PROPULSION APPARATUS
20190382089 · 2019-12-19 ·

A waterjet propulsion apparatus comprising a motor, an impeller driven by the motor via a drive shaft, and a power source. A fluid flow-path is formed through the apparatus, the flow-path extending from at least one fluid inlet, through two propulsion passages, each propulsion passage extending from a propulsion inlet to an outlet located at a rear end of the apparatus. The impeller is located within the flow-path, after the at least one fluid inlet, and before the propulsion inlet of the each of the propulsion passages. The motor is located outside of the flow-path, between the two propulsion passages, and behind the impeller. The apparatus is advantageous in that it provides a compact and lightweight construction that can, for example, be used as part of a personal marine propulsion device that can be used by an individual.
