A marine electric power steering system includes an input assembly, a steering actuator, and a cable assembly. The input assembly is operatively connected to a steering shaft. The input assembly has a steering sensor assembly and a motor assembly. The steering actuator is disposed within a pontoon and is in communication with the steering sensor assembly. The cable assembly extends through a wall of the pontoon. The cable assembly operatively connects the steering actuator and a steering device that is pivotally mounted to the pontoon.

A high strength safety tether adapted to restrain motor flipping in the event of an underwater strike between the motor and an underwater object. In one embodiment the tether is sized to generally surround the exhaust housing of the motor. The free ends of the tether are adapted to be bolted to the transom of the boat. In another embodiment a second leash is attached to a first leash so that the first leash surrounds the steering arm assembly and the second leash surrounds the exhaust housing of the motor.

Trolling motor assemblies and systems employing a fuse for protection of components thereof are provided herein. A trolling motor assembly comprises a shaft, a trolling motor housing, and a main housing. A belt extends between the trolling motor housing and the main housing. A fuse is positioned in at least one of the main housing or the trolling motor housing, and is configured to reduce stress from the shaft applying a force to the belt.
