Airfoils and Machines Incorporating Airfoils
Various embodiments of an airfoil and machines with airfoils are disclosed. The airfoils include a thicker leading airfoil portion and a thinner trailing airfoil portion. In one embodiment, the leading airfoil portion is formed by bending a body of the airfoil back toward itself. In another embodiment, the leading airfoil portion has a solid geometry and includes two elliptic surfaces. To prevent detachment of airflow, the leading airfoil portion includes at least two arc portions or surfaces that act to direct the airflow down to the trailing airfoil portion in a manner that stabilizes vortexes that may form in the region of changing thickness.

Aerodynamic laminar flow structure
An aerodynamic laminar flow structure comprises a flow body and a leading edge designed to face a flow circulating in a flow direction, the leading edge being movable and comprising a retracted position in which the edge of each of two flow surfaces of the flow body is joined respectively to an edge of each of two flow surfaces of the leading edge along a parting line having at least one portion inclined at an angle strictly less than 90° relative to the flow direction. The inclination of at least one portion of the parting line makes it possible to reduce drag and thus to retain a laminar flow over a major part of the exterior surfaces of the aerodynamic structure.
ICE PROTECTION AND BOUNDARY LAYER SUCTION SYSTEM FOR AN AIRCRAFT AEROFOIL
A system for suction of the boundary layer of a wing and protection against icing of this wing includes a wall including micro-perforations and delimiting a leading edge extended by a pressure-side wall and by a suction-side wall. The system also includes a perforated tube running along the leading edge, an exhaust duction for sucking air from this tube in order to suck the boundary layer successively via the micro-perforations of the wall and via the perforations of the tube, and a supply duct for blowing hot air into this perforated tube during a phase of protection against icing, this hot air being discharged successively via the perforations of the tube and via the micro-perforations of the wall.
Foils with serrations
A foil, such as an aerofoil, having a leading edge and a trailing edge, of which at least a portion of one or both of the leading edge and trailing edge has a serrated profile comprising a plurality of adjoining teeth, each tooth having a tip point that represents a local maximum chord-wise extent of the tooth and, on each side span-wise of the tip point, a root point that represents a local minimum chord-wise extent of the tooth and at which the tooth adjoins a respective adjacent tooth, wherein the tooth edge profile varies with an ogee-like curve between tip point and root point such that the tooth is sharper in the neighbourhood of the tip point and in the neighbourhood of the root point than at locations in between.

AIR ACCELERATION AT LEADING EDGE OF WING
Air acceleration at leading edge of aircraft wing. In one embodiment, a slat disposed along a leading edge of a wing of an aircraft. The slat includes a skin structure having an aerodynamic shape, and a hollow space within the skin structure. The slat further includes a nozzle disposed on the skin structure to accelerate air collected in the hollow space into an external environment outside the slat to increase lift and reduce drag for the wing.
Aerofoil structures
A kit of parts for forming an aerofoil structure including a torsion box for use in attaching a fixed leading or trailing edge structure to the torsion box, and a fixed leading or trailing edge structure attachable to the torsion box. The torsion box includes a first mounting feature. The fixed leading or trailing edge structure includes a second mounting feature configured to engage with the first mounting feature. The first mounting feature and the second mounting feature are mutually configured to permit the first and second mounting features to be moved into engagement with each other along a first direction, and to prevent relative movement of the first and second mounting features along a second direction when the first and second mounting features are engaged with each other.
