BLOWER VANE

The present invention relates to a blower vane of a turbomachine, comprising a structure made of composite material which comprises a fibrous reinforcement and a matrix in which the fibrous reinforcement is embedded. The vane comprises a first rigidification insert which extends in a first direction and at least one second insert which is connected to the first in a second direction which is non-collinear with the first direction, the first insert projecting from the vane in order to be connected to a disc of a turbomachine element.

Propeller blade retention

A propeller blade retention arrangement having a propeller blade comprising in radial sequence an aerofoil portion, a shank portion and a root portion. The root portion having first cross-sectional area close to the shank portion and second cross-sectional area at the end distal to the aerofoil portion, wherein the second cross-sectional area is greater than the first cross-sectional area. At least two cheeks each having an inner surface arranged to abut the root portion, an outer surface that is threaded and edge surfaces that abut another of the at least two cheeks; wherein the at least two cheeks are arranged to surround the root portion in circumferential abutment. A collar having a threaded inner surface arranged to threadingly engage the outer surfaces of the at least two cheeks.

Propeller blade retention

A propeller blade retention arrangement having a propeller blade comprising in radial sequence an aerofoil portion, a shank portion and a root portion. The root portion having first cross-sectional area close to the shank portion and second cross-sectional area at the end distal to the aerofoil portion, wherein the second cross-sectional area is greater than the first cross-sectional area. A structure for a trailing edge portion of a rotor blade, wherein the rotor blade has a leading edge, a trailing edge, and opposed upper and lower airfoil profiles each beginning at the leading edge and terminating at the trailing edge. The structure includes an inner core having a generally caret-shaped cross-sectional profile and upper and lower skins adhered to the inner core. The upper and lower skins have respective first and second portions adhered to the inner core, and respective third portions which are adhered to each other and which extend aftward to proximate the trailing edge. An upper pocket is defined by the second and third upper skin portions and the upper airfoil profile, and a lower pocket is defined by the second and third lower skin portions and the lower airfoil profile. The upper and lower pockets are filled with a fairing compound and/or an expandable adhesive.

A multi-layer braided article and a method of making the multi-layer braided article. The multi-layer braided article includes a braid extending along a first axis, wherein the braid is folded over itself to form a first layer and a second layer; and a wrapper laid over the first layer of the braid and extending circumferentially around the first axis, wherein the wrapper defines an edge of the first layer about which the braid is folded. The multi-layer braided article may form part of a blade for an aircraft. A sleeve may be provided around a conical portion of the article to connect the article to something else, such as a propeller hub, where the multi-layer braided article is formed as part of a blade. The sleeve may provide a primary or secondary load path.

The fiber reinforcement includes a non-interlinking forming a housing inside the fiber reinforcement, a conformation part being present in the housing. The non-interlinking extends over a non-interlinked area inside the airfoil portion of the fiber reinforcement included between the root portion and the vane tip portion in the longitudinal direction and between the leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion in the transverse direction, the non-interlinking also opening outside the airfoil portion of the fiber reinforcement.

Sacrificial Blade Tips for Ducted Aircraft

A proprotor blade for a ducted aircraft including a duct includes a main body having a distal end and a sacrificial blade tip coupled to the distal end of the main body. The sacrificial blade tip includes a deformable core material and a shell layer at least partially covering the deformable core material. The sacrificial blade tip deforms upon contact with the duct, thereby reducing damage to the ducted aircraft.

Automated variable pitch propeller blade

A variable pitch propeller is designed to adjust the pitch of the propeller blade during flight to maximize the propeller efficiency. The propeller blade may comprise airfoil cross-sections. Each cross-section may be composed of different materials at the leading edge and trailing edge. In various embodiments, these materials are selected and oriented to achieve the necessary elastic moduli of the leading and trailing edge for the airfoil cross-section. During liftoff, the airfoil at the blade tip possesses a high blade pitch (e.g. 20 degrees), thereby increasing the generated lift on the propeller blades. During flight or hover conditions when maximal lift is no longer required, the trailing edge of the airfoil displaces upward and reduces the blade pitch to minimize the drag forces on the blade tip.
