Environmental control system for aircraft are provided having a ram module having a primary heat exchanger and a secondary heat exchanger, a refrigeration module having an air cycle machine module and a condenser heat exchanger module, and at least one conduit fluidly connecting the ram module to the refrigeration module such that the ram module and the refrigeration module can be installed in two separate volumes of the aircraft.
Aircraft air conditioning system and method of operating an aircraft air conditioning system
An aircraft air conditioning system comprises a process air line configured to supply compressed process air provided by a process air source to an air conditioning unit of the aircraft air conditioning system and a trim air line branching off from the process air line upstream of the air conditioning unit and being configured such that trim air flows through the trim air line, the trim air having been branched off from the compressed process air flowing through the process air line. A compressor is arranged in the trim air line and is configured to compress the trim air flowing through the trim air line. A turbine of the aircraft air conditioning system is configured to drive the compressor. A cabin exhaust air line is configured to supply cabin exhaust air discharged from an aircraft cabin to the turbine for driving the turbine.
LOOP FOR EXTRACTING WATER FROM AN AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM OF A CABIN OF AN AIR OR RAIL TRANSPORT VEHICLE
The invention relates to a loop (40) for extracting water from an air conditioning system of a cabin (5) of an air or rail transport vehicle comprising an air cycle turbine engine (20), the loop comprising: a condenser (41); a three-dimensional mesh grid (45) housed in an outlet box (42) of the condenser and configured to be able to capture water droplets in a stream of moist air condensed by the condenser; a water recovery unit (46) opening on the condenser outlet box (42) and arranged under the three-dimensional mesh grid (45) so as to be able to recover, by force of gravity, the water collected by the three-dimensional mesh grid (45); an air return pipe (44) linking the outlet box (42) to a supply interface for directly or indirectly supplying the turbine of the air conditioning system.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IRRADIATING AIR IN AN AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM OF A VEHICLE
An apparatus for irradiating air flow in a vehicle includes a filter unit configured to couple to a recirculating-air conduit connected to a manifold of an air circulation system, the filter unit having an inlet end, and a filter disposed in the inlet end of the filter unit, including an outer High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) media. The apparatus further includes a plurality of ultraviolet light transmissive strands that each have distal ends disposed in a spaced apart manner in an interface region between the outer HEPA media filter and an inner activated carbon filter or HEPA filter, and proximal ends connectable to an ultraviolet light emitting source such that ultraviolet light is transmitted by the transmissive strands into the interface region. The transmissive strands are configured to receive emitted ultraviolet light that is substantially between 222 nm and 265 nm for irradiating air passing through the filter.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR IRRADIATING AIR IN AN AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM OF A VEHICLE
An apparatus for irradiating air flow in a vehicle includes a filter unit configured to couple to a recirculating-air conduit connected to a manifold of an air circulation system, the filter unit having an inlet end, and a filter disposed in the inlet end of the filter unit, including an outer wall of filter media having a shape that defines an interior volume of the filter. The apparatus further includes an ultraviolet light disposed on an end plate, configured to be mounted with the ultraviolet light positioned in the interior volume of the filter and the end plate against an open end of the filter. The ultraviolet light is configured to emit ultraviolet radiation substantially at between 222 nm and 265 nm for irradiating air flow through the filter into the air circulation system.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR DECONTAMINATING AIRCRAFT CABINS AND PROVIDING INDICATIONS FOR SAFE REENTRY
Described herein are methods and systems for decontaminating aircraft cabins and providing an indication to provide confidence that the cabins are safe for reentry post-operation. These methods and systems are based on reducing concentrations of infectious agents inside a cabin utilizing outside air and/or filtered air. In some examples, a method is performed after a certain contamination event (e.g., a sick person present on a flight and/or as a part of periodic service (e.g., in between flights. The amount of time the system is run to introduce compounds into the cabin is specifically calculated to lower the fraction of the remaining infectious agents below a certain desired level, thereby reducing the contamination concentration in the cabin from the initial concentration, The decontamination duration depends on the cabin volume and the incoming airflow rates. For example, the fraction of the remaining is brought below 5% after 9 minutes of flowing incoming air at 20 air changes per hour.
TREATMENT OF AIR STREAMS WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC REMOVAL OF VIRUSES AND CHARGED PATHOGENS
The invention is directed to an electromagnetic air filtration system and process for removing charged pathogens, such as, the SARS-CoV-2 virus, from an air stream. The air filtration system and process provide a magnetic field within an airflow to remove charged pathogens from the airflow, thereby producing treated air.
