Synchronization of aircraft engines

Methods and related apparatus for improving synchronization of two or more engines on an aircraft are disclosed. Such method may be used where each engine comprises a first spool and a second spool, and, where a rotational speed of a first spool of a first engine has been substantially synchronized with a rotational speed of a first spool of a second engine. An exemplary method comprises receiving a value of a sensed parameter useful in controlling the first engine; adding a bias to the value; and using the biased value for controlling the first engine to cause a change in rotational speed of the second spool of the first engine in relation to the rotational speed of the first spool of the first engine.

System and method for synchrophasing aircraft engines

Systems and method for synchrophasing aircraft engines are disclosed. One method comprises receiving data indicative of a sensed vibration level associated with a first aircraft engine and a second aircraft engine operating at a substantially same operating speed and commanding one or more momentary changes in operating speed of the second aircraft engine until the sensed vibration level substantially reaches a target vibration level. The momentary changes in operating speed of the second aircraft engine is commanded irrespective of phase information associated with imbalances of the first and second aircraft engines.

POWER LEVELING CONTROLLER

The disclosure herein relates to power leveling mechanisms comprising a high frequency controller. The power leveling mechanism receives a power demand signal indicating a power requirement of a vehicle and determines a high frequency component of the power demand signal. The power leveling mechanism also provides a signal to a primary propulsion system and provides, via the high frequency controller, a high bandwidth signal based on the high frequency component to an auxiliary propulsion system.

Method and a device for managing a loss of power on a three-engined power plant

A method of managing a loss of power from a power plant having three engines. During a monitoring step, each engine is monitored in order to detect whether the engine is suffering a loss of power. During a verification step, it is determined whether the power plant is overpowered. During a signalling step, a first alert is generated when an engine has lost power but the power plant is in fact overpowered, and a second alert different from the first alert is generated when an engine has lost power and the power plant is not overpowered.
