SOLAR PANEL MODULE AND SPACECRAFT
A solar panel module includes a solar panel; a printed circuit board combined with a plane of the solar panel and including a microchamber and an ignition circuit; and a propellent inserted into the microchamber and connected to the ignition circuit.
Thruster control device and thruster control method
A thruster control device has an opening degree estimating section and an opening degree control section. The opening degree estimating section calculates an estimated opening degree of a valve showing a rate at which the valve is opened, based on a balance of an acting force applied to a valve element of the valve to adjust a quantity of combustion gas to be ejected from a thruster and a fluid force applied to the valve element by the ejected combustion gas. The opening degree control section determines a target opening degree based on the estimated opening degree to control the opening degree of the valve.
Spin-stabilized orbital rocket guidance
Technologies for guidance of a spin-stabilized orbital rocket are described herein. The spin-stabilized rocket includes a guidance controller. The guidance controller computes parameters of a burn of a second-stage engine of the rocket to reach a desired nominal orbit subsequent to burnout of the first stage of the rocket. The guidance controller computes the burn parameters of the second-stage engine based upon one or more desired orbit parameters and a current position and velocity of the rocket. The computation of the burn parameters is based upon a simulated point-mass model of the motion of the rocket. The guidance controller then controls the rocket to initiate a second-stage burn having the computed burn parameters.
Extinguishable divert system
Various implementations of an extinguishable, solid propellant divert system for a flight vehicle are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for using the divert system to control the flight of a flight vehicle. In one implementation, a divert system includes a hot gas generator pneumatically linked to one or more divert thrusters and an extinguishment valve. The extinguishment valve can be opened to rapidly depressurize the hot gas generator and extinguish the solid propellant burning inside. In another implementation, a method of controlling the trajectory of the flight vehicle includes repeatedly igniting and extinguishing the solid propellant in a hot gas generator and using the hot gas to provide divert thrust for the flight vehicle.
Large-scale space-based solar power station: power transmission using steerable beams
A space-based solar power station, a power generating satellite module and/or a method for collecting solar radiation and transmitting power generated using electrical current produced therefrom is provided. Power transmitters can be coordinated as a phased array and the power generated by the phased array is transmitted to one or more power receivers to achieve remote wireless power generation and delivery. In many embodiments, a reference signal is distributed within the space-based solar power station to coordinate the phased array. In several embodiments, determinations of the relative locations of the antennas in the array are utilized to evaluate the phase shift and/or amplitude modulation to apply the reference signal at each power transmitter.
SYSTEM FOR LASER-DRIVEN IMPACT ACCELERATION
A system for laser-driven propulsion, system comprising a laser source and a target comprising an accelerating part and a projectile part, the accelerating part comprising a metal layer and a porous layer pressed against the metal layer; wherein the laser source is selected to emit pulse beams directed to the metal layer at a fluence below the plasma ablation threshold of the material of the metal layer.
HYBRID METAL COMPOSITE STRUCTURES, JOINT STRUCTURES, AND RELATED METHODS
A multi-component structure includes a first hybrid metal composite structure, a second hybrid metal composite structure, and a joint structure. The first and second hybrid metal composite structures include layers, each layer comprising a fiber composite material structure including a fiber material dispersed within a matrix material and at least one metal ply located between layers of the layers. The joint structure extends between and connects the first hybrid metal composite structure and the second hybrid metal composite structure. Additionally, the joint structure exerts a clamping force on the first and second hybrid metal composite structures and to reduce gaps between the layers, between the layers and the at least one metal ply, and between the joint structure and the first and second hybrid metal composite structures to less than half a thickness of the at least one metal ply.
Satellite launch system
A system for launching aerospace payloads includes an unmanned modified lifting body spacecraft (100), with a payload compartment in the forward section of the spacecraft. The spacecraft is propelled by hybrid rockets clustered in the aft section of the spacecraft. Reaction control system (RCS) modules control the flight path and its associated avionics hardware and software. This system also includes a carrier aircraft (200) configured to air-launch the spacecraft. The carrier aircraft includes a flight operations control system, which monitors the spacecraft's payload and monitors and controls launch and flight operations of the spacecraft. A ground-based mission control system monitors and controls the spacecraft's payload and monitors and controls the launch and flight operations of the spacecraft.

An emergency deorbit device provided in a satellite flying on an orbit around the earth includes a propulsion module generating thrust for separating the satellite from the orbit, a reception unit receiving a repeat signal repeatedly sent at an interval from an sending unit of a satellite bus in the satellite, a detection unit outputting a detection signal when the reception unit does not receive the repeat signal in a set time period or when the reception unit receives a deorbit command from the sending unit or from an outside of the satellite, an activation device performing, in response to the detection signal, processing for activating the propulsion module, and a power supply device provided separately from a power supply device of the satellite bus and supplying electric power to the reception unit, the detection unit, and the activation device.
Propulsion Systems Utilizing Gas Generated Via An Exothermically Decomposable Chemical Blowing Agent, and Spacecraft Incorporating Same
Propulsion systems that generate thrust from pressure generated by thermally decomposing a chemical blowing agent (CBA). In some embodiments, the CBA decomposes exothermically such that once thermal decomposition has been initiated, the thermal decomposition continues without additional energy input. In some embodiments, the CBA is utilized in a digital-microthruster array containing microthrusters that can be individually activated to provide thrust. In some embodiments, a CBA may be stored in one or more CBA-storage chambers that can be individually activated to charge and/or recharge a pressure tank that stores gas from the CBA decomposition under pressure for providing thrust. These and other embodiments are disclosed. Such propulsion systems can be used for any of a variety of spacecraft, including micro- and nano-satellites. Corresponding methods of generating thrust are also disclosed.
