Tethered aerial drone system

Methods and systems are described for an aerial drone system including a drone system controller, at least one working drone (101), and a plurality of support drones (103). The working drone (101) is operated by the drone system controller (125) to adjust a position of the working drone (101). A tether line (105) coupled to the working drone (101) provides electrical power to the working drone (101). The support drones (103) are each coupled to the tether line (105) at a different location along the tether line (105) forming a tethered aerial drone system. Each support (drone 103) supports a portion of the weight of the tether line (105) and is operated by the drone system controller (125) to adjust the position of the tether line (105) by adjusting the position of one or more of the support drones (103).

AIRCRAFT HAVING A DUCTED FAN IN THE AIRFOIL

An aircraft includes a wing having an integrated ducted fan. The ducted fan is enclosed at least in sections by a feed lip. The feed lip has a flat curvature on the bow side and a comparatively strong curvature on the rear side.

Sensing on UAVs for mapping and obstacle avoidance

Structured light approaches utilize a laser to project features, which are then captured with a camera. By knowing the disparity between the laser emitter and the camera, the system can triangulate to find the range. Four, 185 degree field-of-view cameras provide overlapping views over nearly the whole unit sphere. The cameras are separated from each other to provide parallax. A near-infrared laser projection unit sends light out into the environment, which is reflected and viewed by the cameras. The laser projection system will create vertical lines, while the cameras will be displaced from each other horizontally. This relative shift of the lines, as viewed by different cameras, enables the lines to be triangulated in 3D space. At each point in time, a vertical stripe of the world will be triangulated. Over time, the laser line will be rotated over all yaw angles to provide full a 360 degree range.

Propulsion flow path duct systems and methods

A flow path duct system for a propulsion system of an aircraft includes a base defining a flow surface. The base has an internal surface and an external surface. A plurality of perforations are formed through the base between the internal surface and the external surface. A plurality of supports define a plurality of cavities. The plurality of supports extend outwardly from the external surface of the of the base. One or more of the plurality of cavities are in fluid communication with the one or more of the plurality of perforations. A backing surface is secured to the plurality of supports. The plurality of supports are disposed between the base and the backing surface. The one or more of the plurality of cavities are in fluid communication with an internal volume defined by the internal surface of the base through the one or more of the plurality of perforations. The base, the plurality of supports, and the backing surface can be integrally formed together as a monolithic, load-bearing structure.

A motor vehicle (100) has four centreless wheels (10) drivable for use on the ground and four propellers (16) rotatable within the open centres of the wheels (10) for use in the air. The wheel-propeller assemblies (10, 16) are carried on mounting units (14) secured to a frame (12). The mounting units (14) are rotatable on the frame (12) and the wheel-propeller assemblies (10, 16) are rotatable on their respective mounting units (14), in each case by means of servomotors, to convert the vehicle (1009) from its ground mode shown in FIG. 1 to its air mode as shown in FIG. 2, and also to turn the wheel-propeller assemblies (10, 16) so as to steer the vehicle (100) when on the ground and to tilt the wheel-propeller assemblies (10, 16) so as to direct the vehicle (100) when in the air.

An unmanned Wing In Ground Effect vessel (UWIG) for transporting the cargo with internal cargo hold contained in a seaworthy fuselage. The UWIG is autonomous or semi-autonomous. A pair of wings are attached to the fuselage. An on-board controller controls lift sufficient lift to travel in ground effect. The controller also controls UWIG surface maneuvering, taxiing and flying. The UWIG may be autonomous or semi-autonomous.

ROTORCRAFT HAVING AN ELECTRIC DRIVE FOR DRIVING A MAIN AND/OR TAIL ROTOR OF THE ROTORCRAFT

A rotorcraft having an electric drive for driving a main rotor of a rotorcraft, more particularly a helicopter, the electric drive comprising: a coupler for coupling the electric drive to a rotor mast, which can be coupled for conjoint rotation with a drive unit of a helicopter rotor transmission, for coupling for conjoint rotation with the main rotor or tail rotor. A rotorcraft with an electric drive is provided with which the space requirement is reduced, the construction is simplified and the maintenance requirement is reduced. This problem is solved in that the electric drive is designed as an electric ring motor, with the electric ring motor being arranged and attached coaxially with the rotor mast.
