DEVICE FOR PROTECTING PAWS
A device for protecting paws is described, with an upper part and a lower part which each have a shank portion and a paw portion which are connected to each other in sections at the edges so as to form a shank and a paw holder adjoining the shank. In order to configure a device of the type described at the beginning in such a manner that secure paw protection for digitigrades, in particular for dogs, is made possible without substantially interfering here with the natural sequence of movement or the sense of feel on the undersides of the paws, it is proposed that the paw portion of the lower part is in the form of a semi-oval shape adjoining, along the transverse axis thereof, the shank portion of the lower part, and the paw portion of the upper part is in the form of a semi-oval shape adjoining, along the longitudinal axis thereof, the shank portion of the upper part.
Equine support boot with v-shaped sling strap
An embodiment of the disclosed equine support boot comprises a base portion, at least one upper strap, and a v-shaped sling strap attached to a top section of the base portion, the sling strap being configured to pull the fetlock joint towards the attachment point to apply an upward force on the leg thus decreasing tensile stress in a localized area. In this embodiment, the disclosed equine support boot represents an improvement over known equine support boots because in known boots, sling straps rap horizontally around the horse's leg and thus do not provide an upward vertical force on the fetlock joint of the horse's leg. The use of a v-shaped sling strap in embodiments of the disclosed boot enables the straps themselves to apply an upward force toward the attachment point of the v-shaped strap when the boot is mounted on the horse's leg.
TOOLS AND METHODS FOR FITTING ORTHOSES
An orthosis is fitted to a body joint, in a preferred embodiment the equine fetlock, by locating the center of rotation (COR) of the joint; measuring the bones comprising the joint at points located with respect to the COR; selecting the appropriate orthosis from a selection of models thereof; and custom-fitting the orthosis to the individual by heating it to soften a layer of thermoformable foam on the interior of the orthosis and clamping the orthosis in place over the body joint. A kit of tools for performing the measurements is disclosed, as are a method for location of the COR of the body joint by palpation and a preferred heater.
Paw-wear for clawed animals and methods of fitting the paw-wear to the clawed animals
Paw-wear for clawed animals and methods of fitting the paw-wear to the clawed animals. The paw-wear includes a sole and an upper. The sole includes an outer sole surface and an inner sole surface. The upper is shaped to at least partially surround the paw and to selectively retain the paw-wear on the paw. In some examples, the upper is configured to transition between a fitted configuration and an unfitted configuration. When in the fitted configuration, the upper is shaped to at least partially surround the paw and to retain the paw-wear on the paw. When in the unfitted configuration, the upper is shaped to permit the paw to engage the inner sole surface without surrounding the paw or retaining the paw in the paw-wear. In some examples, claws of the paw are exposed when the upper at least partially surrounds the paw and retains the paw-wear on the paw.
Equine hoof boot
A secure equine hoof boot is provided, which engages the bulbs of the hoof to impede rotation of the boot relative to the hoof.
Heater for fitting orthoses to individual body joint
An orthosis is fitted to a body joint, in a preferred embodiment the equine fetlock, by locating the center of rotation (COR) of the joint; measuring the bones comprising the joint at points located with respect to the COR; selecting the appropriate orthosis from a selection of models thereof; and custom-fitting the orthosis to the individual by heating it to soften a layer of thermoformable foam on the interior of the orthosis, and clamping the orthosis in place over the body joint. A kit of tools for performing the measurements is disclosed, as are a method for location of the COR of the body joint by palpation and a preferred heater.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DONNING A FLEXIBLE COVERING ON AN ANIMAL LIMB
An apparatus and method for donning a flexible covering on an animal limb, the flexible covering including a top open mouth defined by a lip. The apparatus comprises a rigid ring having an outer face around which the mouth of the flexible covering can be positioned. The ring comprises one or more protrusions disposed along the outer face of the ring that are adapted to secure the mouth of the flexible covering in an open position and a linear indentation situated on the outer face of the ring that is adapted to accommodate the lip of the flexible covering. The method includes the steps of stretching the mouth of the flexible covering around the outer face of the ring; aligning the lip of the flexible covering with the linear indentation on the ring; guiding the animal limb through the ring and into the flexible covering; releasing the flexible covering from the ring; and removing the ring from the animal limb.
Animal garment system and method
An animal garment system includes a body assembly, a head assembly, and a foot assembly. The body assembly includes an outer-material, an inner-material, a body-closure, and a tail-opening. The head assembly includes an exterior-material, an interior-material, a head-closure, and a plurality of ear-openings. The foot-assembly preferably includes an outside-material, an inside material, and a textured surface. The head assembly is affixed to the body assembly and the body assembly is affixed to the foot assembly. The animal garment system is intended to fit snugly about an animal and protect the animal from external conditions that may be harmful to the animal. A method of using an animal garment system is also disclosed herein.
