A protective apparatus for an article, the apparatus including a surrounding sidewall having a first end portion and an opposing second end portion, the sidewall also having a perpendicularly oriented first margin portion and an opposing second margin portion, also with a primary interior. In addition, included is a plurality of particulate items loosely disposed within the primary interior and a structure for removable engagement positioned adjacent to the first and second margins. The removable engagement structure facilitates the first and second margins to be removably engaged allowing the surrounding sidewall to envelope the article. The primary interior can be evacuated, thus removing the air spaces between the particulate items and in the interior resulting in rigidifying the surrounding sidewall partially encompassing the article to protect the article.

Dunnage bag arrangement

The invention discloses a dunnage bag arrangement for securing loads, includes an inflatable dunnage bag having a gastight inflatable bladder; and a hanger member connected to the dunnage bag and adapted to being supported on top of loads and adapted to support the dunnage bag in a void between loads. The dunnage bag includes a reinforcing sleeve made of at least one material ply, the sleeve having a first opening and a second opening, and the sleeve being folded and sealed and/or stitched to close off at least one of the openings.

On-orbit recycling method for buffer foam of cargo spacecraft

An on-orbit recycling method for a buffer foam of a cargo spacecraft includes the following steps: mechanically cutting a shaped PU foam into foam micro-blocks, and putting the foam micro-blocks into a packaging bag for packaging, where the packaging bag is filled with a foaming adhesive; the foaming adhesive includes a component A and a component B, which are independently packaged in a two-component packaging bag; and the component A and the component B are separated by a film; and squeezing the film between the component A and the component B, such that the two components are fully mixed, foamed and expanded to finally burst the two-component packaging bag, where after the packaging bag is burst, the foaming adhesive expands into gaps of the foam micro-blocks; and in a microgravity state of space, the foaming adhesive expands and fills uniformly in all directions and fully infiltrates the foam micro-blocks.

Cushioning material and package using same

The cushioning material is assembled by: bending a single sheet, which comprises a bottom sheet, a first side sheet, a second side sheet, and an upper sheet, into a rectangular cylinder shape and inserting second flaps and an interlocking sheet in an insertion hole of a middle sheet; bending each first flap away from the first side sheet and bending the middle sheet towards the first side sheet to fit together second interlocking grooves with first interlocking grooves; bending the interlocking sheet to be roughly perpendicular to the upper sheet and bending the second flaps to be roughly perpendicular to the interlocking sheet to engage interlocking sections with the first flaps.

OBJECT RECOGNITION FOR PROTECTIVE PACKAGING CONTROL
20170183139 · 2017-06-29 ·

The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for creating protective packaging. A device comprises a processor and a memory. The memory contains computer readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to receive, from an external sensor, data that is indicative of physical characteristics for an object to be packaged, determine a type of object to which the object to be packaged corresponds based on the physical characteristics, select one or more type of packaging elements for packaging the object based on the type of object, and cause a packaging machine to create packaging elements of the selected type.

Package for eggs and method for manufacturing said package

A protective cover includes a base plate, an integral frame vertically extending from the edge of the base plate, and a shock absorption structure. The base plate and the integral frame cooperate to form a concave portion, which matches with a portable device and is configured to receive the portable device. The shock absorption structure includes a plurality of recesses formed on the internal surface of the integral frame and/or the base plate. The recesses are configured to entrap air therein when the portable device is received in the concave portion and the internal surface of the integral frame and the base plate are fully in contact with the surfaces of the portable device, so as to provide a cushion to protect the portable device against shock.

PACKAGING BAGS, PACKAGING SYSTEMS, METHODS OF SHIPPING, AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURING PACKAGING SYSTEMS
20170101246 · 2017-04-13 ·

Packaging systems and methods are provided in which a shipping bag has an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of cushion pieces are directly affixed to the inner surface, the outer surface, or both the inner and outer surface of the shipping bag by an adhesive. The cushion pieces may be dispersed at various locations inside or outside the shipping bag to protect a unit being packaged and arranged to achieve optimal load bearing for a unit being packaged. In exemplary embodiments, each cushion piece is located at an optimal location one or more of the inner and outer surface of the shipping bag relative to a unit being packaged. Each cushion piece can automatically locate itself at an optimal location on one or more of the inner and outer surface of the shipping bag relative to a unit being packaged. Exemplary methods further comprise determining an optimal location for each cushion piece relative to the unit based on the optimized load bearing and transferring each optimal location to the inner surface of the shipping bag. The step of determining an optimized load bearing for the unit to be shipped may comprise weighing the unit and referring to cushioning curve data for the material of the shipping bag.
