STORAGE PRODUCT AND METHOD
20170217661 · 2017-08-03 ·

A device and method for the provision of antimicrobial activity and/or moisture protection for goods and other items prone to damage caused by microbes and/or water, such as, for example, foodstuffs and other putrescible items, pharmaceuticals and other medical/veterinary products, paper and paper/fibre-board products, timber and wood products, electrical/electronic devices, clothes and fabrics, is disclosed. The device and method is particularly suitable for use with such goods and other items when contained within storage spaces (eg a package, refrigerator, wardrobe or shipping container). The device comprises a vapour-permeable container housing a moisture-removing material and an antimicrobial vapour-generating material in an arrangement such that water added to the device or absorption and/or adsorption of water vapour by the moisture-removing material causes the antimicrobial vapour-generating material to generate an antimicrobial vapour. A device and method for disinfecting items such as food containers and food preparation implements, is also disclosed.

Microwave Heating Construct

A microwave heating construct that includes a bottom and upstanding side walls formed from a first pair of opposing side walls and a second pair of opposing side walls. The first pair of opposing side walls being substantially parallel and the second pair of opposing side walls being substantially parallel. The first pair of opposing side walls being connected to the second pair of opposing side walls along corners to form a continuous upper surface above the bottom. The construct includes at least one raised surface disposed above the bottom with the at least one raised surface being defined by an upper surface that slopes downwardly to the bottom. The construct can be packaged with a pad and a product to be heated under a film.

FLEXIBLE PACKAGE WITH EMBOSSED LIQUID CONTAINMENT CELLS
20170267432 · 2017-09-21 ·

The present invention is directed to packages having a flexible top sheet sealed to a flexible embossed bottom sheet The flexible bottom sheet comprises a plurality of embossed peaks and valleys wherein each valley has a defined perimeter with a valley base integrally connected to a valley wall which thereby defines an individual liquid containment cell. The packages according to the present invention are heat resistant to allow food packaged therein to be cooked in a microwave oven such that a substantial amount of water and/or grease released by the food during the cooking process is captured beneath a food contact surface in a plurality of embossed individual liquid containment cells, in preferred embodiments, the package of the present invention is a microwavable form-fill-seal package or microwavable vacuum package for storing and cooking a precooked or cured food product with substantial water and/or fat content.

Composite Materials for Cleaning and Agriculture Applications
20170267435 · 2017-09-21 ·

A composite material for food contact applications includes an absorbent layer and a non-absorbent layer, the absorbent layer having a textured surface for absorbing and trapping liquids, for example, oil, grease, or water, and the non-absorbent layer having an oleophobic surface that acts as an oil and grease specific liquid barrier. The material further includes one or more lamination layers. The lamination layer acts as a general liquid barrier between the absorbent layer and non-absorbent layer. This additional liquid barrier enhances the liquid repelling effect of the non-absorbent layer to more effectively trap liquids in the absorbent layer, thereby preventing liquids from seeping through the material onto an external surface.

METHODS FOR PACKAGING AND PRESERVING BERRY PRODUCTS
20220039415 · 2022-02-10 ·

Methods are provided for storing and preserving a cut or whole berry product, preferably so as to extend shelf life of the same. In one optional method, the berry product is placed in a product containing space of a storage container atop a platform of a support structure. The storage container includes an internal compartment having the product containing space. The support structure defines the platform for supporting the berry product. The internal compartment further includes a reservoir, configured to retain liquid, below the platform. The platform and/or support structure are configured to direct liquid exuded from the berry product to the reservoir. Optionally, the reservoir comprises an absorbent material for absorbing liquid in the reservoir

Microcapillary Fluid Absorbing Sheet

A package for a food product can include an insert enclosed within a single film formable using, e.g., flow-wrapping, to enclose the food product and the insert. At least one portion of insert may be made up of an absorbent material laminated to a backing, the absorbent material adapted to absorb moisture within the package. The insert may include a base upon which the food product can be placed and two or more sides extending up from the base to contain the food product from moving in one or more directions. Fins or overlapping portions of the film may be configured on at least two edges of the single film allowing a seal to be created thereby further allowing the single film to substantially enclose the food product and the insert. Crimped seals may further be employed to completely seal the food product and the insert within the single film. One or more of the seals may be self-venting to release accumulated steam/moisture during a cooking or preparation process.
