A lid and sleeve system that creates a zero maintenance humidity controlled, protective environment within a cigar tube is disclosed. This invention incorporates two-way humidity control technology while adding superior protection as well as optimal air circulation in an optionally transparent tube, designed for but not limited to the disposable retail packaging of a cigar.

Methods and apparatus are described herein related to an environmental monitoring system configured to avoid spoilage of goods by alerting a supervisor to hazardous conditions. A cigar humidor may be monitored by placing a cigar-shaped and cigar-sized sensor-equipped component made from metal or cedar wood inside the humidor amongst the cigars. The sensors monitor a plurality of parameters, of which relative humidity is of particular importance for cigar humidors. One hazardous condition, which is tracked by the system is the absence of an airing event for a period greater than a pre-configured interval. Once an airing event has been absent for a long enough time period, either a pre-alert or a full alert is being issued. The system offers multiple alternative ways of detecting airing events including time series anomaly discovery algorithms with grammar-based compression.

A multi-part packaging including at least two packaging sleeves and a sealing film that seals a connection joint between the packaging sleeves is disclosed. A cap is releasably secured to the open end of the tube. The packaging further includes an infusing agent. The infusing agent is configured to act as a humidifier to prevent the cigar from drying out while the cigar is in the packaging and the infusing agent is further configured to provide flavor and aroma to the cigar while the cigar is in the packaging. A method of packaging a cigar is also provided.
