The present invention relates to a flexible package-forming machine for horizontal packaging and method of manufacturing flexible packages. The proposed forming machine consists of an unwinding unit (11), a perforating unit (12), a folding unit (14), a welding unit (16), and a cutting unit (17), wherein a compensating unit (13) is further included intercalated between the perforating unit (12) and the folding unit (14), linking a section with intermittent forward movement (S1) of the flexible band (1) where the flexible band moves in an intermittent manner and including the perforating unit, and a section with continuous forward movement (S2) where the flexible band moves in a continuous manner and including the folding unit, flexible band being accumulated in said compensating unit during the forward movement of the section with intermittent forward movement (S1) and the accumulation being reduced during breaks in the forward movement of the section with intermittent forward movement.

For instance, the web handling system is particularly well suited for maintaining web tension within predefined setpoints during temporary interruptions in the process, such as during splicing operations. The web handling system includes an accumulator or festoon that accumulates amounts of the material as the material is being fed downstream. At least one guide roll within the festoon is coupled to a drive device, such as a motor. The system also includes at least one tension sensing device. The drive device accelerates or decelerates the guide roll based upon information obtained from the tension sensing device. In one embodiment, the system further includes an electronic gearing configuration between a roll of material being unwound and the guide roll within the festoon for better synchronization and further minimizing tension swings. The electronic gearing can include a diameter calculator for the roll of material being unwound based on speed feedback of a driven guide roll.

The tape lamination head is but one component of a larger tape lamination machine and assembly. Among its components, the tape lamination head includes a tape supply reel, a backing paper take-up reel, and a tape tension control system. The tape tension control system has a first dancer roller assembly located downstream of the tape supply reel and has a second dancer roller assembly located upstream of the backing paper take-up reel. The first dancer roller assembly can include a first roller, a first guide, a first actuator, a first lock, and a first position sensor. The second dancer roller assembly can include a second roller, a second guide, a second actuator, a second lock, and a second position sensor.
