A method, apparatus and program product may evaluate a packaging material to determine various metrics associated with the packaging material. A test apparatus may be used to evaluate packaging material using a take up drum capable of sensing containment force imparted upon the drum by packaging material applied thereto, and in some instances, simulated flaws may be formed in a web of packaging material to evaluate a packaging materials response to such flaws when under tension.

IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An image forming apparatus includes a conveyor belt for conveying a sheet, a plurality of ink heads for fulfilling printing on the sheet, a sensor whose detection position is a position within a belt zone, a controller for halting the printing upon occurrence of jam, and a notification part for executing a notification process that urges cleaning of the conveyor belt. Upon occurrence of jam, the controller, based on an output signal of the sensor, decides for each one of the plurality of ink heads whether or not an ink head is a sheet-nonarrival head where an in-zone sheet has not yet arrived at a gap between the ink head and the conveyor belt, and given that there is no such sheet-nonarrival head, the controller keeps the notification part from executing the notification process.

PRINTING DEVICE WITH MODULAR ASSEMBLY INCLUDING ELASTIC ELEMENTS

A printing device and method is described comprising: controlling movement of a printing medium along a printing medium path to position the printing medium relative to at least one printhead to allow printing on the printing medium by the at least one printhead; and applying a plurality of respective elastic forces in a direction substantially perpendicular to the printing medium path, wherein the respective elastic forces are applied by a plurality of elastic elements of a modular assembly arranged laterally across a width of the printing medium path, wherein the printing medium acts against the elastic forces of the respective elastic elements of the modular assembly.

Media management using a media management device

Examples of a media management device for use in a media processing device are described, together with a media processing device for use with a media management device. The media management device supplies a continuous print media to the media processing device, while receiving the media from an external media source. The media management device is arranged to isolate a tension in the continuous print media experienced at the media processing device from a tension in the continuous print media experienced in the external media source.

Electronic Nip Adjustment and Pressure Measurement on Pull Station

A pull station has top and bottom continuous loops with the top continuous loop disposed on a frame and movable relative to the bottom continuous loop with a frame actuator connected with the frame. The frame actuator has a sensor for sensing position. A stop, adjustable with a stop actuator and having a load sensor, is operatively engageable with the frame and prevents movement of the top continuous loop toward the bottom continuous loop. A control determines a distance between the top and bottom continuous loops based upon the actuator position sensor; determines a force imparted to webs based on the stop load sensor, the weight of the frame and the top continuous loop, and a force imparted to the top continuous loop by the frame actuator as the webs are conveyed in the pull station; and controls the pull station based upon the distance and/or force measurements.
