The top of the base has a guide with a catch to hold and guide the thread towards a cutter on top of the base. The cutter includes a cartridge with a replaceable blade. The blade is recessed and exposed through a mouth for safety. The base includes a plurality of needle holding apertures. Optionally included is a drawer in the base and a tension nut holding the spool onto the spindle.
