Systems and methods of dispensing telecommunications cable from a network component are provided. A system includes a housing, an axle, and a spool. The housing defines an interior region and includes a cable storage portion and a mounting surface defining a receptacle. The axle is configured to removably attach to the receptacle. The spool is configured to be disposed on the axle, and has a first flange proximal to the mounting surface and a removable second flange distal to the mounting surface when the spool is disposed on the axle. The spool has a drum portion configured to support a coiled fiber optic cable and dispense the fiber optic cable as the spool rotates on the axle. Undispensed cable can be removed from the spool with the second flange removed. The cable storage portion of the housing is configured to receive the undispensed coil.

The present disclosure describes methods of manufacture and implementations of cable storage and dispensing systems combining the advantages of reel-based systems and box-based systems. The present system may be manufactured entirely out of corrugated cardboard or similar materials, reducing expense and weight compared to systems with wood, plastic, or metal reels or flanges, and adding recyclability in a single paper-based waste stream. The system may dispense cable in the same manner as reel-based systems, reducing tangling and aiding installation and deployment compared to box-based systems that do not utilize reels or spools. The system does not require the use of reel stands or other external components, and may be light and portable.

Tool-less cable retainer

Example embodiments relate to an apparatus comprising a first flange part; a second flange part comprising a hole and one of a male portion or a female portion; and a spindle comprising a first axial end, an axial body, a second axial end and an other of the male portion or the female portion arranged on the second axial end of the spindle. The first axial end of the spindle is rigidly connected to the first flange part, while the second axial end of the spindle extends through the hole so that the male portion extends into the female portion to secure the spindle part to the second flange part and so that the axial body extends between the first flange part and the second flange part. The male portion or the female portion is elastically deformable to allow the male portion to be removed from the female portion and the spindle to be removed from the second flange part.

Cable spool assembly

A spool assembly includes a drum having a first axial end and an oppositely disposed second axial end. The drum includes an inner surface that defines a bore that extends through the first and second axial ends. A drum support is disposed in the bore of the drum. The drum support includes a first end and an oppositely disposed second end. The drum support has an exterior surface. The exterior surface of the drum support and the inner surface of the drum define a plurality of channels. A first flange is engaged to the first end of the drum support. A second flange is engaged to the second end of the drum support.

SPOOL SECURING MECHANISM

A reel body is the reel body in which an adhesive film having an adhesive layer on a base material layer is wound around a winding core. The adhesive film does not have a protective layer on the adhesive layer and is wound around the winding core in a state in which the adhesive layer and the base material layer are contiguous to each other in the radial direction of the winding core. A width of the winding core in an axial direction is smaller than a width of the adhesive film. In a rolled body of the adhesive film, an overhang portion jutting out in the axial direction of the winding core is provided.

Locking breakdown spool

A breakdown spool having a hollow barrel and separate flange members is provided. The barrel ends define an insertion section for movement into a central recess positioned within the support surface of the flanges. The central recess includes an outer peripheral wall having an inside diameter closely dimensioned with an outside diameter of the barrel wall. The insertion sections on the ends of the barrel and the central recess of each flange having first and second engagement elements for releasably securing the flanges to the axial ends of the barrel. The engagement elements have different structural forms. Interconnecting alignment elements are provided to fix the relative position of the axial end of the barrel with respect to the central recess of the flange and to align the respective first and second engagement elements on the insertion section and the peripheral wall around the perimeter of the central recess.
