Passive insect surveillance sensor device

Disclosed are real-time insect surveillance sensor devices and methods that use a colorimetric readout for detecting insect disease vectors (such as mosquitoes which can transmit pathogens such as DENV, CHIKV, and ZIKV). The method involves an attractive or feeding solution combined with detector conjugates. The conjugate can specifically detect proteins present in insect saliva and/or proteins specific to mosquito-borne pathogens.

AUTONOMOUS MOSQUITO CONTROL

A system for the automated management of a water-breeding insect population, the system comprising: at least one ovitrap comprising a container arranged to hold a liquid and collect the eggs of a water-breeding insect; one or more autonomous vehicles; and an ovitrap manager configured to communicate with the one or more autonomous vehicles to instruct an autonomous vehicle to perform one or more tasks to administer maintenance of one or more ovitrap s. The maintenance of the ovitraps is carried out by autonomous vehicles, thereby reducing or eliminating human involvement. Furthermore, the ovitraps themselves may be cheap and replaceable such that a large number may be deployed to cope with increasing insect populations. They also may be spread across a wide area since the autonomous vehicles travel to the ovitraps such that there is no burden placed on human operators in travelling to maintain the traps.

SYSTEM FOR MOUNTING AN OVITRAP

A system for mounting an ovitrap is described which allows an ovitrap to be reliably and removably secured in desired locations. The system includes a frame arranged to hold a removable container, the container arranged to hold a liquid and collect the eggs of water-breeding insects, and a retainer configured to secure the container within the frame. The retainer is configured to move between: a closed position, in which the retainer extends towards and grips the container when the container is in the frame; and an open position, in which the retainer is withdrawn from the container, allowing the container to be removed from the frame. The container can be removably secured within the frame and held in the correct orientation by one or more retainers which prevent the container being dislodged. The retainer can be moved to the open position allowing the container to be removed from the frame.

Water Movement System and Method for Controlling Water Breeding Insect Populations

A water movement system and method configured to eradicate and/or control mosquito or insect populations that lay eggs in treated, stagnant water environments. The system is comprised of a water pump configured to function in cooperation with an underwater insect attractant device. The insect attractant device is suitably constructed to generate carbon dioxide for attracting insects to a water extermination zone or trap. In one embodiment, the underwater insect attractant device contains organisms such as mycelia for generating the carbon dioxide. Insects are attracted by the carbon dioxide generation device to reproduce in the water extermination zone, using the treated water to lay eggs, and grow larvae and pupae for the subject insects. A solar-powered water pump device is configured to direct the flow of water from the water extermination zone toward filters of the water pump device to trap and kill insect progeny including eggs, larvae, and pupae.

The present invention provides a mosquito trapping device, which comprises a carbon dioxide generating module, a temperature control module, a humidity control module, and a mosquito-killing module. The carbon dioxide generating module comprises a container A and a container B, a solution in the container A reacts with a solution in the container B to generate carbon dioxide; the temperature control module controls a temperature of the mosquito trapping device to be between 38 C. and 45 C.; the humidity control module controls humidity of the mosquito trapping device to be between 50% and 80%; the mosquito-killing module generates a guiding wind having a wind speed of 0.7 m/s to 15 m/s. The present invention has a good mosquito-attracting effect and a desirable mosquito-killing ability.

An insect trap includes a lure having one or more attractant compounds. The attractant compounds optionally including compounds of different volatility. The lure including a membrane configured to control release rates of the attractant compounds such that a release rate of a compound having greater volatility has its release rate lowered by a greater percentage or amount than a release rate of a compound having lower volatility. Inclusion of the membrane allows for adjustment of the relative release rates such that both compounds are released together over a longer time than would occur without the membrane. The lure is optionally disposed in a trap.

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for a fly trap assembly specifically designed to trap the insects by using a container having an attractant liquid whom odor attracts the insects to the container. The entry element is provided with concave baffles to enhance the dissemination of attractant odor from the container.

Insect Bait

An insect-trap olfactory bait is formed by processing fish (for example, by using a salt) and then aging the processed fish. The processing can then be reversed at least in part (for example, by rinsing away some salt) following which the resultant fish parts are placed in contact with an alcohol. Solid remnants of the resultant fish parts are later separated from the alcohol to thus provide an olfactory fish extract infused liquid filtrate. These teachings will accommodate, during at least a portion of such a process, dehydrating the fish parts. By another approach, in lieu of the foregoing or in combination therewith, these teachings will accommodate, prior to separating solid remnants of the resultant fish part from the alcohol, comminuting the fish parts to thereby reduce the overall average size and density of the solid fish material.

In order to appropriately address concerns of mosquitoes which carry disease, this device has been created to initially classify the mosquito to formulate appropriate extermination strategies. Classification of mosquitoes is typically done through the wing beat frequency by either noise or light interruption. It is important to be aware that not all mosquitoes are harmful and any data that may be collected concerning the harmful mosquito should be as accurate as possible to avoid altering the food supply in any particular area.

An apparatus for controlling mosquito populations by eradicating mosquito eggs. The apparatus consists of a spawning tank and a multi-purpose spawning tank cover. The cover of the spawning tank is used as a depressor bowl and the spawning tank functions as a confining chamber. Experimental results show that the mosquito egg eradicating apparatus can effectively eradicate 90% of field mosquito eggs in four hours.
