STAGING SURFACE FLYING INSECT TRAP
20170290318 · 2017-10-12 ·

Devices are embodied that eliminate flying insect pests in quite a different way than others devices have used in the past. If insects are attracted to a surface large enough to accommodate their numbers and allowed to gather for a time without being restrained or bothered, it is possible by way of these embodiments at a single location to eliminate insects in very large number on a daily basis. Depending on a device's size and embodiment, from several hundred to far in excess of one hundred thousand flying insects per twenty-four hour period can be eliminated.

Skeeter Eater™ Apparatus and Method for Concentrating then Killing Mosquito Larvae
20170290323 · 2017-10-12 ·

An apparatus for concentrating then killing mosquito larvae, comprising: a mosquito larvae trap for containing a stagnant, stationary pool of water; and an electrical connection for enabling a power source attached to the electrical connection, to introduce an electrical current into the stagnant, stationary pool of water, with a voltage sufficient to electrocute mosquito larvae in the stagnant, stationary pool of water.

ADAPTIVE INSECT TRAP
20220046907 · 2022-02-17 ·

The current subject matter relates to controlling insects and includes a trap that can vary operation based at least on a target insect. For example, different insects are attracted to and/or repelled by different things, such as gases, orders, lights, and sounds. In general, things that attract a given insect are referred to as attractants and things that repel a given insect are referred to as repellents. By varying the operation of the trap, different attractants and repellants can be used to attract and/or repel specific insects. In addition, these attractants and repellants and/or characteristics thereof can these be varied dynamically based on, for example, time of day, proximity of individuals to the trap, proximity of insects to the trap, geographic location, and the like. Related apparatus, system, articles, and techniques are also described.

ANALYZING IMAGES OF PESTS USING A MOBILE DEVICE APPLICATION

Techniques for analyzing images of pests using a mobile device application are described. A mobile computing device may receive, via a graphical user interface (GUI), location information input corresponding to a location of a glueboard, an identification input of a pest type caught on the glueboard, and an image of the glueboard. The device may analyze white and dark areas of the image to determine at least one of: 1) total dark surface area of the glueboard and 2) number and size of multiple contiguous dark surface areas of the glueboard. The device may calculate a quantity of pests based on dark surface area and an average size of the pest. The device may output the quantity of pests to the GUI.

A remote insect monitor and associated method include a container configured to allow an insect attractant within the container to escape into ambient air proximate a landing area. At least one detection sensor generating sensor data of insects proximate the landing area, and a control module has a processor and a memory storing machine readable instructions executable by the processor to process the sensor data and count insects proximate the landing area. The remote insect monitor and associated method may also include an analyzer for analyzing an insect of interest to determine whether the insect carries a disease, wherein the control module sends an indication of whether the insect carries the disease to the remote server.

INSECT TRAP ASSEMBLY

An insect trap assembly comprises a collection cup having a circumferential side wall, a bottom and an open flared top. The open flared top has a flared surface and a flared end outside diameter. The assembly further comprises at least one funnel for guiding any insects into the collection cup. The funnel has a top opening inside diameter and a bottom opening inside diameter. The flared end outside diameter of the collection cup is smaller than the funnel's top opening inside diameter, but it is greater than the funnel's bottom opening inside diameter. This allows the collection cup to be positioned within the funnel in a capture arrangement. The insect trap assembly may also be provided with a plurality of spoked panel support members so as to allow the insect trap assembly to support a plurality of panels in combination with the at least one funnel.
