Image reading apparatus
An image reading apparatus includes a feed roller configured to feed paper toward a reading section, and a medium detection section provided along a transport path between the feed roller and the reading section and configured to include a transmitting portion configured to output an output value equivalent to a magnitude of an ultrasonic wave, and determines whether the transport of the paper is to be continued or to be brought to a halt on the basis of a lower limit value and an upper limit value for the output value, which are set in accordance with the kind of the paper. Further, in a case where the output value satisfies a first condition, a transport of the medium is continued, and in a case where the output value satisfies a condition different from the first condition, the transport of the medium is brought to a halt.

Printing indicia indicating an intended location of a fold line
In an example, a print apparatus includes a controller and a printing unit. The controller may control the printing unit to print a media sheet with at least one indicia indicating an intended location of a fold line, wherein the media sheet is to be folded along the fold line. The controller may be to control the printing unit to print the at least one indicia to provide an offset gauge such that, when the media sheet is folded along a formed fold line, the indicia provides an indication of an offset between the intended location of the fold line and the formed fold line.

IMAGE READING APPARATUS AND IMAGE READING METHOD
An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment includes a first sensor, a roller, a correction unit, a second sensor, a control unit, and a scanner. Upstream to downstream positions with regard to a transportation direction of the sheet are determined in the following order: the first position, a second position, a third position. The first sensor detects the presence or absence of a fold of the sheet in the first position. If it is detected in the first position that the fold is present, the roller transports a sheet in a reverse transportation direction. The correction unit corrects the fold in the first position. The second sensor detects the presence or absence of the fold in the second position. If it is detected in the second position that the fold is present, the control unit controls drive of the roller in such a manner that the sheet is transported up to the first position in the reverse transportation direction. The scanner reads an image on the sheet of which the fold is corrected in the first position.

Image forming apparatus that forms and outputs images on a medium
Provided is an image forming apparatus that easily performs the work of adjustment so that folding lines do not become an obstacle when looking at an image that is formed on paper after the paper has been folded. A printing-data-input unit that printing data for printing the image is inputted to. A fold-setting unit recognizes a folding pattern, and positions of folding lines on the paper that are used in that folding pattern. A positional-relationship-adjusting unit adjusts at least one of the positions of the folding lines and the printing data so that portions in the image that are not blank and the folding lines do not overlap on the paper. An output unit, after adjustment by the positional-relationship-adjusting unit, forms an image on the paper, and outputs the paper.
SHEET FOLDING MACHINE WITH WASTE PRODUCT REMOVAL
A machine for folding sheets receives a stream of sheets. A first folding unit is followed by a further unit. The first folding unit has at least one buckle plate and at least two folding rollers to fold the sheets. A monitoring device checks the stream for defects. A control unit activates a removal device for removing waste products when a defect is detected. The monitoring device is disposed at the entry region of the buckle plate and monitors the stream in the buckle plate. The removal device is disposed downstream of the first folding unit and upstream of the further unit. The system, which is suitable for industrial folding machines, reliably detects unusable waste products in the folding process even before production might be affected.
