Paper conveying apparatus, jam detection method, and computer program
Provided is a paper transporting device and the like capable of suppressing errors in determining jam occurrences. A paper transporting device has: a transport mechanism; an audio signal output unit that outputs an audio signal according to the sound generated during paper transport; an audio jam determination unit that determines, on the basis of the audio signal, whether a jam has occurred; and a control unit that stops paper transport when the audio jam determination unit determines that a jam has occurred. The control unit controls, in the case of card stock or paperboard being transported by the transport mechanism, so that the audio jam determination unit determines whether a jam has occurred at predetermined times using a determination method that is different than the method at other times or so that the audio jam determination unit does not determine whether a jam has occurred.

A paper jam indication detection device is a paper jam indication detection device that detects an indication that a paper jam will occur in a paper feed device, the paper jam indication detection device including: a sound collector that collects a friction sound produced by friction between a plurality of sheets of paper when the paper is fed from a holder holding the plurality of sheets of the paper; an indication detector that detects an indication that a paper jam will occur in the paper feed device based on a decrease in the friction sound collected by the sound collector; and a signal outputter that, when the indication is detected by the indication detector, outputs, to the paper feed device, a signal for stopping the paper from being fed from the holder.

A reversing roller pair is controlled such that, when an abnormality occurs during the conveying of a sheet, the sheet is conveyed in a forward direction by the reversing roller pair, and is controlled to continue conveying until a state where the final sheet among the sheets conveyed in the forward direction is detected by a first detection portion, and subsequently to stop in a state where the final sheet is nipped by the reversing roller pair.

A sheet feeding apparatus is provided with a pick-up roller that contacts sheets loaded on a load tray to pick up, a paper feed roller that feeds a picked-up sheet, and a separation roller brought into press-contact with the paper feed roller to separate the sheet, where the sheets are separated from the pick-up roller, the separation roller is rotated in a sheet return direction different from a sheet feed direction, and subsequently, the paper feed roller is separated from the separation roller. It is possible to prevent damage to a sheet and sheet jam from occurring in pulling out the load tray loaded with sheets to the front side.

A sheet feeding device includes a feeding guide of resin material constituting a sheet feeding path along which a sheet is fed; a feeding roller for feeding the sheet along the feeding path, the feeding roller being provided with a metal shaft; a sheet sensor configured to detect the sheet fed along the sheet feeding path; and a grounding member electrically grounding the shaft. The feeding guide has a guiding surface for guiding the sheet, and the guiding surface is provided with a hole portion for exposing the shaft to the sheet feeding path.
