CONVEYING APPARATUS
A controller, upon occurrence of a sheet jam in a downstream conveyor, discharges a sheet in an upstream conveyor from a discharge port by controlling an operation of a switchback roller depending on an operation status of the switchback roller at a time of the occurrence of the sheet jam and then stops sheet conveyance by a conveyor.
MEDIUM CONVEYING APPARATUS DETECTING BOUND MEDIUM BASED ON LIFT OF MEDIUM
A medium conveying apparatus includes a pick roller feeding a medium, a separation roller placed on a downstream side of the pick roller in a conveying direction of a medium, an arrival detection sensor placed on a downstream side of the separation roller in the conveying direction and detecting arrival of a medium, a lift sensor detecting a lift of a medium between an upstream side of a roller nip of the pick roller and a downstream side of a roller nip of the separation roller, and a processor. The processor determines that a medium is a bound medium when a lift of a medium is detected by the lift sensor in a first predetermined period after detection of a front edge of a medium in a conveying direction by the arrival detection sensor, and executes abnormality processing when a medium is determined to be a bound medium.
SHEET CONVEYING APPARATUS
A sheet conveying apparatus for conveying a sheet in a conveying direction includes a pair of conveying rollers receiving and conveying a sheet; an endless conveying belt conveying the sheet; a plurality of balls to be rotatable in any direction while nipping the sheet with the conveying surface; a pair of regulating guides disposed on both sides of the conveying belt; a guide moving unit that moves the pair of regulating guides; and a roller moving unit that moves at least one of the pair of conveying rollers to a nip position and a nip release position. Before a rear end of the sheet passes the pair of conveying rollers, the pair of conveying rollers is moved to the nip release position by the roller moving unit, and then, the guide moving unit makes each of the pair of regulating guides reach the guide position from the retracting position.

METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM FOR DETECTING A MEDIA JAM IN A PRINTER
Various embodiments disclose a method of detecting a media jam in a printer. The method includes causing a sensor unit of the printer to generate a sensor signal indicative of a reflectance characteristic associated with a surface of a roller of the printer. Further, the method includes receiving the sensor signal from the sensor unit of the printer and comparing the reflectance characteristic to a threshold reflectance characteristic associated with the roller. Furthermore, in response to the comparison, the method includes generating an output signal to indicate whether the media jam has occurred. For example, a first output signal indicates unsuccessful passage of a media along a media path of the printer, when the reflectance characteristic exceeds the threshold reflectance characteristic and a second output signal indicates successful passage of the media along the media path, when the reflectance characteristic is equal to or below the threshold reflectance characteristic.
Image forming apparatus, image forming method, and non-transitory recording medium
An image forming apparatus includes a conveyor, an actuator, an image forming unit, a detection unit, and a controller. The conveyor transports a sheet having a length measured in a transport direction. The actuator drives the conveyor. The image forming unit forms an image on the sheet. The detection unit includes a first sheet detection sensor that outputs a detection signal indicating whether the sheet transported by the conveyor passes through a first predetermined detection position. The controller controls the actuator based on the length of the sheet in response to an indication that the detection unit is not operating normally.
Jam detection of image forming apparatus based on sizes of motor currents measured in multiple intervals
An image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a print engine to be used to perform an image forming job, a motor to start the print engine, a driving circuit to supply a power to the motor and to include a sensor to sense a size of current of the power supplied to the motor during an operation to perform the image forming job, and a processor to detect an occurrence of jam based on a size of current sensed by the sensor in a first time interval while the motor is driven and a size of current sensed by the sensor after a determined time from the first time interval.
