An elevator system includes an elevator car, an elevator controller, a safety controller and a plurality of safety contacts connected to the safety controller, wherein the plurality of safety contacts monitor the elevator system. The safety controller is configured to receive individual status information from each of the plurality of safety contacts and to prevent movement of the elevator car when the individual status information received from one of the plurality of safety contacts indicates an unsafe condition of the elevator system. The safety controller is configured to connect to a remote computing device, to receive first authentication information from the remote computing device, and to authenticate the remote computing device if the first authentication information meets an authentication condition. If the remote computing device is authenticated, to permit the remote computing device to override the safety controller to enable movement of the elevator car.

At least one of the wireless beacon and the personal mobile terminal is configured to automatically generate and send, based on successful sensing of the wireless signal by the personal mobile terminal, maintenance register information indicating that the corresponding maintenance operator has checked into a maintenance operation process. The present invention can significantly simplify the check-in operation.

A system and method for detecting a brake dragging during normal operation of a motor monitors torque at zero speed and at constant speed. For an inertial system acted upon by gravity, a value of torque required to maintain zero speed is approximately the same as a value of torque required to maintain operation at a constant speed. In an exemplary, elevator system, a motor drive determines the torque required to maintain zero speed operation of an elevator cab after a holding brake opens and before it begins controlling the motor to rotate. The motor drive again determines the torque required to maintain a constant speed and compares this value to the value of torque required to maintain zero speed. If the difference between the two values of torque is greater than a predefined threshold, then the motor drive determines that the brake is dragging and sets an error message.
