Drawworks gearbox with redundant braking on input side

A drawworks gearbox includes additional braking on the input side of the gearbox to provide a redundant emergency brake and, optionally, a separate parking brake with the drum-side brakes being the emergency brake. An air-cooled brake disc is attached to a high speed coupling connected to the gearbox input pinion. A hydraulic-apply, spring-release brake is mounted to the gearbox housing at each pinion location and arranged to act on its respective disc.

A representative winch includes a cable drum rotatable in a winding direction and an unwinding direction, a drive motor, a drive shaft coupled to the drive motor and rotatable about a shaft axis, a gear train coupled to the drive shaft and the cable drum, and a mechanically actuated brake. The brake can include a first element coupled to the drive shaft and rotatable about the shaft axis, a second element coupled to the cable drum and rotatable about the shaft axis, and a friction element positioned between the first and second elements and rotatable about the shaft axis. At least one of the first and second elements can be movable toward and away from the other between an engaged position with the friction element clamped between the first and second elements, and a disengaged position with the friction element unclamped.

A chain hoist with a chain wheel and a load chain looped around the chain wheel has a shaft rotatably mounted in the housing for driving the chain wheel. A threaded disc with internal thread is connected to an external thread of the shaft and has a drive gear tooth system engaged by a force element actuated manually or motorized. A brake disc rotatable relative to shaft and threaded disc has a braking surface facing a drive surface of the shaft and a braking surface facing the threaded disc. The brake disc has locking teeth engaging a safety catch of the housing. A freewheel device is provided to increase an axial distance between threaded disc and drive surface. Centrifugal elements with outward friction surface are fixed to the threaded disc and expand outwardly against a spring force to contact a braking surface of the housing with their friction surface.

BRAKE DEVICE
20180298968 · 2018-10-18 · ·

In a brake device configured to perform braking and releasing of a disc by moving a rod having a lining at a leading end of the rod by a spring device, a cylinder tube of a pressure control unit is arranged adjacent to a pressure storage unit configured to store a compressed fluid. When the disc is to be released, a pressure-receiving piston is moved to a releasing position. When the disc is to be braked, the pressure-receiving piston is returned to braking position.

This disclosure relates to an electromagnetic brake configured to slow a deceleration rate of a passenger conveyer, such as an elevator car, during braking. In particular, this disclosure relates to a passenger conveyer system including the electromagnetic brake and a corresponding method. An example system includes a controller and an electromagnetic brake. The electromagnetic brake includes a disc configured to interface with a drive shaft, a spring, and a plate biased in a first direction into engagement with the disc by a bias force of the spring. The electromagnetic brake further includes an electromagnet selectively activated in response to a command from the controller to produce a magnetic field attracting the plate in a second direction opposite the first direction to partially offset the bias force of the spring. Further, when the electromagnet is activated, the plate engages the disc.
