Use of vanillin derivatives as a preservative, preservation method, compounds, and composition
The present invention relates to the use, in a cosmetic, dermatological or pharmaceutical composition, of at least one compound of formula (I): ##STR00001##
in which: R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl radical; R3 represents a linear C1-C12 alkyl radical, optionally substituted with a hydroxyl group; or a linear C2-C12 alkenyl radical, optionally substituted with a hydroxyl group;
as a preserving agent. The invention also relates to certain novel compounds and to the cosmetic, dermatological or pharmaceutical compositions comprising them.
ANTI-VIRAL COMPOUND
Phlorotannins with anti-viral properties, in particular those with a molecular mass of from about 1000 g/mol to about 3000 g/mol, are described. The phlorotannins may be obtained or obtainable as an extract from seaweed, and may be used in compositions or extracts as anti-viral agents. Methods for producing the extracts and their use for treating or preventing viral infections and for reducing or controlling a virus on a surface using the phlorotannins are also described.

Attractants for rats
Rat attractant compositions attractive to the rat species Rattus norvegicus are disclosed, which compositions are constituted of compounds found in the headspace volatiles of male urine odor or female urine odor. Said compositions are respectively termed male pheromone blend (MPB) and comprises 2-heptanone, 4-heptanone, 3-ethyl-2-heptanone, 2-octanone, 2-nonanone, and 4-nonanone in a ratio of 10:100:10:1:1:10 respectively, or female pheromone blend (FPB) and comprises 2-methyl-butyric acid, 3-methyl-butyric acid, heptanal, hexanoic acid, 2-phenylacetaldehyde, nonanal, and decanal in a ratio of 20:20:10:30:5:20:10. Devices including the rat attractant compositions, and methods of using said rat attractant compositions, are also disclosed.
