A base unit comprises a control unit, a base-device transceiver in communication with the control unit and at least one visual indicator controlled by the control unit. At least one module is mounted in or on the base unit. The at least one module comprises a dispensing arrangement for dispensing beverage from a beverage reservoir. A computing devise configured to communicate with the base-device transceiver. The method comprises receiving an input from a user at the computing device and sending a dispense instruction signal to the control unit of the base unit via the base-device transceiver. In a dispense event, in response to the control unit of the base unit receiving the dispense instruction signal, at least one visual indicator is controlled to light up the at least one module for a predetermined time period based upon a fixed beverage flowrate and a desired beverage volume. The fixed beverage flowrate is the same for all dispense events relating to a particular module.

A valve is configured to control the flow of beverage via the mixing nozzle, and a switch is movable into and between a closed position in which the valve opens the flow of beverage via the mixing nozzle and an open position in which the valve closes the flow of beverage via the mixing nozzle. A lighting module disposed in the housing is configured to illuminate the front of the housing and the base of the housing when the switch is moved into the closed position.

An actuating member (44) is operable to initiate dispensing of the beverage and one or more of said flavorings from the dispensing outlet. The apparatus includes a selector (42) configured to receive a user input selection of one or more of the beverage flavorings to be dispensed and a control unit (40). Upon user operation of the actuating member (44), the control unit (40) operates a pump (24a-f) to supply a selected one or more of the flavorings to the dispensing outlet based on the user input selection.
