HERMETIC SEAL FOR USE IN AN IMPLANTABLE METRONOMIC DRUG PUMP AND A MEHTOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

A method of hermetically bonding components of an implantable pump made of biocompatible materials comprises the steps of providing a first SiO.sub.2 layer of predetermined first thickness onto a selected bonding surface of a first biocompatible component of the implantable pump to reduce the surface roughness, Ra, available for bonding below a first predetermined magnitude; providing a second SiO.sub.2 layer of predetermined second thickness onto a selected bonding surface of a second biocompatible component of the implantable pump to reduce the surface roughness of the selected bonding surface; and bringing the first and second SiO.sub.2 layers into contact with each other at a low temperature with a low pressure to form a high quality hermetic bond and seal between first and second SiO.sub.2 layers. The invention includes an implantable pump having a hermetic seal manufactured by the method.

Suspended microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices

A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device is provided that includes a substrate having a dielectric cavity formed therein and a movable electromechanical device suspended in the dielectric cavity. The dielectric cavity includes a substantially planar bottom surface and at least one sidewall surface extending substantially perpendicularly from the bottom surface. The movable electromechanical device is suspended in the dielectric cavity such that the movable electromechanical device is spaced apart from the bottom surface and the at least one sidewall surface of the dielectric cavity. The bottom surface of the cavity and each of the at least one sidewall surface of the cavity meet at a rectilinear corner.

The approach includes forming a first cantilevered electrode over a first electrode, forming a second cantilevered electrode over a second electrode and operable to directly contact the first cantilevered electrode upon an application of a voltage to at least one of the first electrode and a second electrode, and the first cantilevered electrode includes an arm with an extending protrusion which extends upward from an upper surface of the arm.

Micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and related actuator bumps, methods of manufacture and design structures

Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) structures, methods of manufacture and design structures are provided. The method of forming a MEMS structure includes forming fixed actuator electrodes and a contact point on a substrate. The method further includes forming a MEMS beam over the fixed actuator electrodes and the contact point. The method further includes forming an array of actuator electrodes in alignment with portions of the fixed actuator electrodes, which are sized and dimensioned to prevent the MEMS beam from collapsing on the fixed actuator electrodes after repeating cycling. The array of actuator electrodes are formed in direct contact with at least one of an underside of the MEMS beam and a surface of the fixed actuator electrodes.

Gas sensor, sensor array, and manufacturing method thereof

A gas sensor includes a silicon substrate, a detecting electrode, a first isolation film, a heating resistor, and a second isolation film that are successively stacked. The gas sensor has a base structure and a cantilever structure with a curled free end, and a gas sensitive material is provided on the end of the cantilever structure. A sensor array composed of the gas sensor, and a method for manufacturing the gas sensor are also provided. The method includes (1) selecting a sacrificial layer; (2) preparing a detecting electrode; (3) preparing a first isolation film; (4) preparing a heating resistor; (5) preparing a second isolation film; (6) releasing the membrane; and (7) loading the gas sensitive material.

MEMS DEVICE COMPRISING A DEFORMABLE STRUCTURE AND MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE MEMS DEVICE

A MEMS device comprising: a semiconductor body defining a main cavity and forming an anchorage structure; and a first deformable structure having a first end and a second end that are opposite to one another along a first axis, the first deformable structure being fixed to the anchorage structure via the first end so as to be suspended over the main cavity. The second end is configured to oscillate, with respect to the anchorage structure, along a second axis. The first deformable structure comprises a main body having a first outer surface and a second outer surface, and a piezoelectric structure, which extends over the first outer surface. The main body comprises a bottom portion and a top portion that delimit along the second axis a first buried cavity aligned with the piezoelectric structure along the second axis, wherein a maximum thickness of the top portion of the main body along the second axis is smaller than a minimum thickness of the bottom portion of the main body along the second axis.

A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device is provided that includes a substrate having a dielectric cavity formed therein and a movable electromechanical device suspended in the dielectric cavity. MEMS pressure gauge sensor and manufacturing method

The present invention relates to a MEMS pressure sensor die and its fabrication process. The pressure sensor comprises a chamber inside which a MEMS pressure sensor die is provided. The pressure sensor die comprises a handle, a device layer and a cap all connected together. A silicon oxide layer is formed between the handle and the device layer. Another silicon oxide layer is formed between the device layer and the cap. Recesses are respectively formed on the handle and the cap and face each other. The handle recess and the cap recess are connected to form a cavity. The device layer, which spans the cavity, further comprises a bridge on which a plurality of piezoresistive sensing elements are formed. The present pressure sensor is more immune to temperature effects. It is especially suitable for operating in a high temperature, high pressure environment and is capable of delivering accurate and reliable pressure measurements at low cost.

Planar cavity MEMS and related structures, methods of manufacture and design structures

A method of forming a Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) includes forming a lower electrode on a first insulator layer within a cavity of the MEMS. The method further includes forming an upper electrode over another insulator material on top of the lower electrode which is at least partially in contact with the lower electrode. The forming of the lower electrode and the upper electrode includes adjusting a metal volume of the lower electrode and the upper electrode to modify beam bending.

Method for processing product wafers using carrier substrates

A method for processing product wafers using carrier substrates is disclosed. The method includes a step of bonding a first carrier wafer to a first product wafer using a first temporary adhesion layer between a first carrier wafer surface and a first product wafer first surface. Another step includes bonding a second carrier wafer to a second product wafer using a second temporary adhesion layer between a second carrier wafer surface and a second product wafer surface. Another step includes bonding the first product wafer to the second product wafer using a permanent bond between a first product wafer second surface and a second product wafer first surface. In exemplary embodiments, at least one processing step is performed on the first product wafer after the first temporary carrier wafer is bonded to the first product wafer before the second product wafer is permanently bonded to the first product wafer.
