SATURATED LAYER STORMWATER FILTER AND PASSIVE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WITH PRETREATMENT
A saturated layer stormwater filtering system with down-flow layered multimedia filters is disclosed. The filtering system may include an upflow pretreatment chamber and a subsequent filtration chamber. It also includes a snorkel pipe as an adjustable head control or internal baffles. The system incorporates gravity powered partially saturated stormwater media filters to harness the potential energy of stormwater from downspouts and pumped flows from stormwater catchments to drive the polluted stormwater in a hydraulically controlled fashion by gravity through a series of filter media layers.

Adsorptive media for chromatography, particularly ion-exchange chromatography, derived from a shaped fiber. In certain embodiments, the functionalized shaped fiber presents a fibrillated or ridged structure which greatly increases the surface area of the fibers when compared to ordinary fibers. Also disclosed herein is a method to add surface pendant functional groups that provides cation-exchange or anion-exchange functionality to the high surface area fibers. This pendant functionality is useful for the ion-exchange chromatographic purification of biomolecules, such as monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).

PROCESS FOR THE ISOLATION OF REACTION PRODUCTS FROM SUGAR ALCOHOL OR ANHYDROSUGAR ALCOHOL HYDROGENOLYSIS REACTION MIXTURES USING SIMULATED MOVING BED CHROMATOGRAPHY
A method of isolating and purifying a product of sugar alcohol or anhydrosugar alcohol hydrogenolysis from a reaction mixture containing sorbitans, 1,2,4-butanetriol (BTO), 1,2,5,6-hexanetetrol (HTO), among other byproducts of a hydrogenolysis reaction of a sugar alcohol and/or a mono- or di-dehydrative product of a sugar alcohol is described. The method involves contacting the mixture having the products of sugar alcohol or anhydrosugar alcohol hydrogenation and other C.sub.1-C.sub.6 alcohols and polyols with a resin material adapted for chromatography under conditions where the products preferentially associates with the resin relative to other components in the mixture, and eluting products from the resin with a solvent. The method suggests a way for separation of aliphatic polyols generated from the hydrogenolysis of sugar alcohols or anhydrosugar alcohols.
SELECTIVE ISOLATION OF ARN ACIDS FROM CRUDE OILS
A process for selective isolation of high molecular weight (˜1230 Daltons) naphthenic acids (Arn acids). The process includes providing a polymeric resin with a bound a quaternary amino group and applying a crude oil sample containing Arn acids to the polymeric resin. A first wash of an organic solvent is applied to the sample followed by a second wash of a polar organic solvent mixture. The first two washes remove unwanted crude oil compositions while the Arn acids are bound to the quaternary amino groups. A third wash of acidified organic solvent removes the Arn acids from the polymeric resin, thereby forming an elute comprising the Arn acids and the acidified organic solvent. The acidified organic solve is then evaporated isolating the Arn acids from the crude oil sample.
ION EXCHANGER
An ion exchanger includes a case that is provided with an opening, an intake port, and a discharge port. The opening opens upward in the case. Coolant is drawn into the lower portion of the case through the intake port and discharged through the discharge port. An ion exchanging resin member and a cap are provided in the case. The ion exchanging resin member removes ions from the coolant. The cap is detachably attached to the case and closes the opening of the case. The ion exchanger further includes a tube member that is arranged to extend vertically in the case. The lower end aperture of the tube member is connected to the discharge port of the case. The upper end aperture of the tube member faces the inner top surface of the lid portion of the cap.
