A dewatering screw press has an auger within a case and driven by a motor. Influent material is received through an intake into the case near a proximal end of the auger, where it is driven toward a distal output by the auger. While the influent is driven along the exterior of the auger by a first spiraled fin of the auger, the influent passes by mesh screens in the case and the auger. As the influent material passes by the screens, liquids in the material pass through but solids are prevented from doing so. A second spiraled fin, internal to the auger and spiraled inversely to the first spiraled fin, impels liquid received into the cavity of the auger backward toward a proximal output located at the proximal end of the auger.

The drainage passage includes a first connecting hose to guide the water to flow from the tub to the first filter, a second connecting hose to guide the water to flow from the first filter to the second filter, and a drainage hose to guide the water to be discharged from the second filter to the outside of the washing machine.

In some embodiments one or more flow-directing features are located between the filter assembly and the housing, and may aid in the flow of fluid to a filtered outlet after passing through the filter. The flow-directing features may comprise, for example, channels that extend the length of the filter.

System and Method for Removing Solid Buildup from Filters

A system and a method for removing solid buildup from a filter media is disclosed. A slurry is passed parallel across a cross-flow filter, the filter comprising a conductive filter media and the slurry comprising a carrier liquid and solids. A portion of the carrier liquid crosses through the filter media as a permeate while a thickened slurry continues parallel to the filter media. A blockage of at least a portion of the filter media is detected. The blockage comprises a portion of the solids. At least a portion of the filter media is heated to a melting temperature of the solids, such that a portion of the blockage melts, whereby the blockage is cleared.
