An apparatus and method are provided for an air filter configured to be mounted onto an air inlet of an internal combustion engine. The air filter comprises a first end cap configured to couple with a base which is configured to support a conventional air filter and provide an interface between the conventional air filter and the air inlet. A filter medium which is relatively thicker than the conventional air filter is configured to remove particulate matter and other contaminates from an incoming airstream. A second end cap is configured to couple with a cover which is configured to fasten the conventional air filter and the base onto the air inlet, such that the incoming airstream is directed through the filter medium. The air filter is configured to be installed in place of the conventional air filter without necessitating alteration of the base and cover.

A filter element for filtering a fluid has a support pipe and a filter bellows arranged about a longitudinal axis on the support pipe. The filter bellows has folds with radially outer fold edges. The filter bellows has a first axial end and a second oppositely positioned axial end. The filter bellows has a notch at least at one of the first and second axial ends. An axial length of the notch in longitudinal direction is shorter than a longitudinal extension of the filter bellows. The support pipe has a support structure at the axial end with the notch and has at least two wings. The support structure is oriented radially away from the support pipe and is integrated into the end disk at both sides of the notch. A filter system with such a filter element arranged in a housing is provided.

A filter element comprising a filter media having a first end and a first endcap coupled to the first end of the filter media. The first end-cap includes a flexible first endcap body having a first endcap rigid reinforcing member internally embedded therein. The first endcap rigid reinforcing member may comprise a wire mesh screen and the filter media may comprise a pleated filter media. The filter element may further comprise a second end-cap coupled to a second end of the filter media. The second endcap may include a flexible second endcap body having a second endcap rigid reinforcing member internally embedded therein.

Utilizing a mechanical seal between a filter media and an endcap of a rotating filter cartridge

Referring to the figures generally, a rotating filter cartridge includes a first endcap, a second endcap, and a filter media. The filter media is positioned between the first endcap and the second endcap. The filter media creates a mechanical seal between at least one of the first endcap or the second endcap during rotation of the rotating filter cartridge without the use of a potting material. In at least one embodiment, the rotating filter cartridge further includes a body secured to the first endcap and the second endcap. At least one of the first endcap or the second endcap, and the body, may form a pocket that radially pinches the filter media to form the mechanical seal.

An air filter housing has an inner housing space adapted to receive an air filter element. The air filter housing includes a first housing end and a second housing end located axially opposite the first housing end in relation to the inner housing space, and an outlet pipe extending from the second housing end axially into the inner housing space. The outlet pipe has a center axis and an opening configured to receive clean air from the inner housing space, wherein at least an axial portion of the outlet pipe has a cross-sectional area along a geometrical plane perpendicular to the centre axis which is tapering.

A carrier includes a first seat upon which the filter element sits and a sealing surface which forms an airtight seal with the silencer element. The silencer element includes sound absorbing media. The sound absorbing media inward surface delimits a throat void space. Inward of the sound absorbing media inward surface, is an, air permeable, porous, sound permeable inner sidewall which delimits void spaces which comprise through openings to the sound absorbing media inward surface. Outward of the sound absorbing media outward surface is a cylindrical, air permeable, porous, sound permeable outer sidewall which delimits void spaces which comprise through openings to the sound absorbing media outward surface.

The housing includes an inlet configured to accept a fluid for filtering and the filter media including a circumferential outer surface. The end cap is positioned at and coupled to one end of the filter media. The baffle is positioned relative to the filter media at a position such that, when the filter element is correctly installed within the housing, the baffle is proximate the inlet of the housing. The baffle extends around only a portion of the circumferential outer surface of the filter media in a radial direction.
