A method suppresses membrane thickness variation and air resistance variation after a compression at 60 C. or 80 C. Stretching is performed at least twice in at least different axial directions before the extraction of the solvent, and at the same time, at least one of (i) and (ii) is satisfied. (i) The step (c) is a first stretching step of stretching the sheet-shaped product at least once in a sheet transport direction (MD direction) and at least once in a sheet width direction (TD direction) individually, and the MD stretching magnification and the TD stretching magnification in the step (c) satisfy (TD stretching magnification MD stretching magnification2). (ii) The stretching temperature (T1) of a first axial stretching performed firstly in the step (c) and the maximal stretching temperature (T2) of a second stretching performed after the first axial stretching satisfy (T1T20).
Multilayer polymeric membrane
Provided is a novel continuous single-step method of manufacturing a multilayer sorbent polymeric membrane having superior productivity, properties and performance. At least one layer of the polymeric membrane comprises sorbent materials and a plurality of interconnecting pores. The method includes: (a) coextruding layer-forming compositions to form a multilayer coextrudate; (b) casting the coextrudate into a film; (c) extracting the film with an extractant; and (d) removing the extractant from the extracted film to form the multilayer sorbent polymeric membrane. The sorbent membrane of this disclosure can find a wide range of applications for use in filtration, separation and purification of gases and fluids, CO.sub.2 and volatile capture, structural support, vehicle emission control, energy harvesting and storage, electrolyte batteries, device, protection, permeation, packaging, printing, and etc.

The present invention relates to a polypropylene resin composition for a microporous film which can reduce the product defect rate due to stabilization of porous formation by stabilizing film formation and also can obtain a film suitably usable for a separator, a filtration membrane, a separation membrane and a filter since the microporous film can be thinned due to high rigidity, and more specifically, relates to a polypropylene resin composition for a microporous film wherein the composition comprises 5 to 30% by weight of polypropylene resin (X) having specific MFR, molecular weight distribution Mw/Mn by GPC, melt tension (MT), branching index g and mm fraction of the propylene unit triads by .sup.13C-NMR, satisfying specific conditions concerning gels and having a long chain branched structure and 95 to 70% by weight of polypropylene resin (Y) having a specific MFR and excluding the polypropylene resin (X).
CLOSED LOOP AZEOTROPE-BASED SOLVENT EXTRACTION AND RECOVERY METHOD IN THE PRODUCTION OF MICROPOROUS MEMBRANES
An environmentally friendly closed loop manufacturing process (10.sub.1, 10.sub.2) produces microporous membranes (32) by cast or extrusion of polymer-plasticizer mixtures followed by non-porous film formation (20), extraction (22) of the plasticizer using an azeotrope solvent and thereby forming a solvent-laden sheet and a mixture of plasticizer and azeotrope solvent, distillation (28) of the mixture to separate the plasticizer and azeotrope solvent for reuse, evaporation (30) of the azeotrope solvent from the solvent-laden sheet to form the micropores, and capture of the resultant solvent vapor for subsequent adsorption-desorption of the azeotrope solvent from activated carbon (34) or by vapor condensation (36) for reuse in the manufacturing process. The azeotrope solvent is at least a two-component mixture of solvents, one of which is designed for efficient removal of the plasticizer, while the other component(s) render(s) the azeotrope solvent non-flammable.
