A filter membrane for selectively separating a specific material from other materials in a processing medium includes a membrane including resin material and having openings formed such that the openings selectively separate a specific material from other materials in a processing medium. The membrane has a first surface and a second surface on the opposite side with respect to the first surface such that the first surface receives the processing medium supplied to the membrane, the openings are formed through the membrane such that each of the openings has an opening part extending from the second surface toward the first surface and an expansion part expanding a size of the opening part and extending from the opening part to the first surface, and the first surface of the membrane is divided into multiple regions.

POLYACID-FUNCTIONALIZED POROUS MEMBRANES, RELATED METHODS, AND RELATED POLYACID POLYMERS

The disclosure relates to processes, related polyacid polymers, and related articles for functionalizing a porous membrane by contacting the membrane with a polyacid polymer at low pH to stably adsorb a polyacid layer on the membrane pore surface, in particular polyacid polymers including repeating units with a pendent metal-binding ligand or star polyacid polymers. The resulting functionalized membrane is characterized by a high density of free acid groups, resulting in a higher specific capacity for its intended application. The process allows functionalization of porous membranes in a very simple, one-step process, for example without a need to derivatize an adsorbed polyacid layer to impart metal-binding ligand functionality thereto. Such functional membranes may find multiple uses, including rapid, selective binding of proteins for their purification or immobilization.

Copolymer having amphiphilic blocks, and use thereof for manufacturing polymer filtration membranes

A copolymer having amphiphilic blocks includes at least one first hydrophilic block, obtainable from n-butyl acrylate and hydroxyethyl methacrylate monomers, and a second hydrophobic block likely to be obtained from a methyl methacrylate monomer. The copolymer is found to be particularly advantageous for use as an additive for manufacturing a polymer filtration membrane, particularly a PVDF membrane, particularly via a phase inversion method.

Water flux polymer membranes

The invention relates to a polymer membrane composition having improved water flux and stable pore size. The water flux is improved by increasing the hydrophilicity of the membrane using a matrix polymer blended with controlled architecture amphiphilic block copolymers. Preferred membranes are those having a fluoropolymer matrix and acrylic amphiphilic block copolymers. The addition of the amphiphilic block copolymers are especially useful in microfiltration and ultra filtration membranes when used in water filtration.
