One aspect of the present invention is a composite hollow fiber membrane including: a semipermeable membrane layer; and a supporting layer that has a hollow fiber shape and is porous, wherein the semipermeable membrane layer contains a crosslinked polyamide polymer composed of a polyfunctional amine compound and a polyfunctional acid halide compound, the supporting layer has a gradient structure in which pores of the supporting layer gradually increase in size from one of an inner surface and an outer surface to the other, has a cut-off particle size of 0.001 to 0.3 μm, and contains a crosslinked hydrophilic resin on at least a dense surface having smaller pores of the inner surface and the outer surface, and the semipermeable membrane layer is in contact with the dense surface of the supporting layer.
HYDROPHILIC POROUS MEMBRANE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING HYDROPHILIC POROUS MEMBRANE
Provided is a hydrophilic porous membrane including a porous membrane and a hydroxyalkyl cellulose (preferably, hydroxypropyl cellulose) retained in the porous membrane, the hydroxyalkyl cellulose having a weight-average molecular weight of 10,000 or more and less than 110,000. The hydrophilic porous membrane of embodiments of the invention has high water permeability and can pass an integrity test in the case of being used as a filtration membrane of a filter cartridge. Also provided is a method for producing the above-mentioned hydrophilic porous membrane, the method comprising causing a hydrophilizing liquid including 0.005% to 0.500% by mass of a hydroxyalkyl cellulose having a weight-average molecular weight of 10,000 or more and less than 110,000, to permeate a porous membrane.
SELECTIVELY PERMEABLE GRAPHENE OXIDE MEMBRANE
Described herein are crosslinked graphene oxide and polycaroxylic acid based composite membranes that provide selective resistance for solutes while providing water permeability. Such composite membranes have a high water flux. The methods for making such membranes, and using the membranes for dehydrating or removing solutes from water are also described.
HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF
A hollow fiber membrane of the present invention is a hollow fiber membrane having an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein the inner surface has a zebra stripe pattern in which dense portions and porous portions are alternately formed in the longitudinal direction, and the outer surface has a maximum pore size of about 1 m or less (about 1 m), and wherein the hollow fiber membrane has a water permeability (flux) of about 1,300 LMH/bar to about 5,000 LMH/bar.
SUPPORTED ZEOLITE FILMS AND METHODS FOR PREPARING
A method for producing a crystalline film comprising zeolite and/or zeolite-like crystals on a porous substrate is described. The method has the steps of: providing a porous support; modifying at least a surface of the top-layer of said porous support by treatment with a composition having one or more cationic polymer(s); rendering at least the outer surface of said porous support hydrophobic by treatment with a composition having one or more hydrophobic agent(s); subjecting said treated porous support to a composition having zeolite and/or zeolite-like crystals thereby depositing and attaching zeolite and/or zeolite-like crystals on said treated porous support, and growing a crystalline film of zeolite and/or zeolite-like crystals on said treated porous support and calcination. Crystalline films find use in a variety of fields such as in the production of membranes, catalysts etc.
FILTER MEDIUM, MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR, AND FILTER UNIT COMPRISING SAME
A filter medium including: a porous first support; nanofiber webs respectively stacked at the upper and lower parts of the first support, and made of a plurality of nanofibers of which the diameters have a standard deviation of 300 nm or less; and a porous second support interposed between the first support and the nanofiber web. The filter medium is implemented by fibers having uniform diameters, and thus is easily manufactured to have a predetermined pore diameter and simultaneously has excellent uniformity of the pore diameters, thereby having excellent filtering efficiency and being more suitable when selectively separating specific objects. Backwashing is enabled at uniform pressure during backwashing such that high cleaning power is obtained. The filter medium has excellent water permeability and excellent mechanical strength so as to minimize the shape and structural deformation and damage of the filter medium.
Methods and systems for coating hollow fiber membrane contactors
A method for coating hollow fiber membranes is disclosed. The method includes preparing a continuous circulating circuit, which includes a membrane contactor module, two liquid reservoirs containing a solvent, two pipeline paths, and at least one injector. The membrane module include a plurality of hollow fiber membranes with an inside area and an outside area, and a housing, where the plurality of hollow fiber membranes are extended inside the housing. The method further include forming a plurality of wetted hollow fiber membranes with the solvent by circulating the solvent through the continuous circulating circuit, filling at least one of the two liquid reservoirs with a coating solution, forming a coating layer on a surface of at least one of the inside area or the outside area of the plurality of wetted hollow fiber membranes by circulating the coating solution through the continuous circulating circuit, and forming a uniform coating layer by injecting the coating solution by the injector for intrusion of the coating solution through the coating layer.
Porous hollow fiber membrane
A porous hollow fiber membrane is provided for the treatment of a protein-containing liquid, which can effectively separate and remove a substance such as a small diameter virus, and which can allow effective permeation of a useful substance to be recovered such as protein in high concentration. The porous hollow fiber membrane has an asymmetric structure having a dense layer in an outer layer only and contains a hydrophobic polymer and a first hydrophilic polymer, the surface and the porous part of the hollow fiber membrane are coated with a second hydrophilic polymer, the hydrophobic polymer is a polysulfone-type polymer, the first hydrophilic polymer is a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone with vinyl acetate, and the second hydrophilic polymer is a polysaccharide or a polysaccharide derivative. The porous hollow fiber membrane is obtained by co-dissolving the hydrophobic polymer and the first hydrophilic polymer and then the second hydrophilic polymer is coated.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING ARTIFICIAL LUNG AND ARTIFICIAL LUNG
A method is disclosed for producing an artificial lung including a plurality of porous hollow fiber membranes for gas exchange which have an outer surface, an inner surface forming a lumen, and an opening portion communicating the outer surface with the inner surface. The method includes bringing any of the outer surface and the inner surface into contact with a colloidal solution that contains an antithrombotic high-molecular compound to circulate carbon dioxide gas to a side of the other surface. According to the present disclosure, an artificial lung can be produced in which a coating amount of antithrombotic high-polymer material (an antithrombotic high-molecular compound) on a hollow fiber membrane is increased.
