Plunging liquid jet reactor and water treatment system
12195374 · 2025-01-14 · ·

A plunging liquid jet reactor and water treatment system is provided including a supply water tank. A downcomer within the supply water tank defines a hollow column having an upper end and open lower end. Supply water is pumped to a nozzle on the upper end of the downcomer. The nozzle generates a liquid jet downward in the hollow column. A filter having at least one semi-permeable membrane surrounds the downcomer. A collection tray is mounted between the filter and the supply tank for collecting treated water pushed upward between the filter and the downcomer. A pressure difference between supply water surrounding the filter and water within the filter causes water molecules to pass through the semi-permeable membrane and form treated water which is gathered on the collection tray. Depending on the filter medium and number of stages, the system may be employed in water desalination, microfiltration, nanofiltration, and/or ultrafiltration.

Tray assembly for gas/liquid contact tower

A tray assembly for improved gas/liquid contact in a chemical process tower includes a tray deck and a downcomer. A mixer is provided in the top of the downcomer and a distributor is attached to a floor of the downcomer. The mixer includes at least one mixing baffle parallel to an outlet weir on the tray. The distributor includes a plurality of spaced apart flow directing plates extending downwardly toward and spaced apart from the floor of the downcomer. In combination, the mixer and distributor effect even liquid flow across the surface of a subjacent tray deck.

System for contacting gases and liquids

A system for contacting gases and liquids includes a vessel containing inert particles, wherein the total volume of the inert particles is from 1 to 20% of the total working volume of the vessel.

Ceramic micro-porous water aeration diffuser
09688553 · 2017-06-27 · ·

A water aeration diffuser has a base with an internal cavity defining an air pocket, and a ceramic plate removably attached to the base. The base is in flow communication with air supply such that air is received in the cavity and then diffused by the ceramic plate to create an aeration column in a body of water. To allow for repair and servicing, the ceramic plate is removably attached to the base by one or more fasteners. The base includes a perimeter lip around its top portion that supports the ceramic plate and maximizes the exposed surface area of the plate. A water and air-tight gasket is provided between the lip and the ceramic plate. An eye-bolt may be provided through the ceramic plate and attached to the base to provide an attachment point for a ballast or other means used to position the diffuser.

CHIMNEY TRAY FOR A COLUMN FOR THERMAL TREATMENT OF FLUID MIXTURES
20170173491 · 2017-06-22 · ·

The present invention relates to a chimney tray (3) for a column (1) for thermal treatment of fluid mixtures, comprising a collecting tray (4) and at least two chimneys (5-1, 5-2) spaced apart horizontally in the collecting tray (4), where each chimney (5-1, 5-2) forms a vertically aligned chimney body (6-1, 6-2) which forms a passage orifice (7-1, 7-2) through the collecting tray (4), and has a cover unit (8-1, 8-2) arranged spaced apart from the chimney body (6-1, 6-2), and where the cover unit (8-1, 8-2) covers the respective passage orifices (7-1, 7-2) in the vertical direction. The chimney tray (3) of the invention is characterized by a screen (9) which extends around the chimney body (6-1) of a first chimney (5-1), with the lower annular edge (14) of the screen (9) below the upper edge (13) of the chimney body (6-1) of the first chimney (5-1) and the upper annular edge (11) of the screen (9) above the lower outer edge (12) of the cover unit (8-1) of the first chimney (5-1) or adjoining the lower outer edge (12) of the cover unit (8-1) of the first chimney (5-1).

Gas distributor for heat exchange and/or mass transfer column

The present invention relates to a device that conditions high entrance velocity, superheated feed gas, which include some high boiling components, for example, asphaltenes and poly-nuclear aromatics that tend to coke upon condensation and exposure to the superheated feed gas temperature. Also included in superheated feed gas are solid catalyst fines, from a single or multiple feed nozzles to a quiescent flow regime for uniform distribution of the gases, to a contact device within the Main Fractionator (MF) column.

Countercurrent contacting devices

The contacting device for countercurrent contacting of fluid streams and having a first pair of intersecting grids of spaced-apart and parallel deflector blades and a second pair of intersecting grids of spaced-apart and parallel deflector blades. The deflector blades in each one of the grids are interleaved with the deflector blades in the paired intersecting grid and may have uncut side portions that join them together along a transverse strip where the deflector blades cross each other or adjacent opposed ends of the deflector blades and cut side portions that extend from the uncut side portions to the ends of the deflector blades. At least some of the deflector blades have directional tabs and associated openings to allow portions of the fluid streams to pass through the deflector blades to facilitate mixing of the fluid streams.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GAS DISPOSAL

A discharge system includes a mixing vessel and a feedstock input in fluid communication with the mixing vessel. A solvent input is in fluid communication with the mixing vessel. A discharge output is in fluid communication with an outlet of the mixing vessel to discharge effluent. A method for generating turbulence on a liquid surface within a discharge system includes supplying a mixing vessel with feedstock fluid and solvent fluid to generate a liquid mixture and a gas pocket in the mixing vessel. The method includes supplying an impinging solvent fluid through a nozzle extending from a first end of the mixing vessel to generate a roiling surface at an interface between the gas pocket and the liquid mixture and permit uptake of gas from the gas pocket into the liquid mixture.

Water filtration and aeration unit

A combined water aeration and filtration unit (WAFU), having a tank with a vent section at a top of said WAFU and above an aeration section above a filtration section at a bottom of said WAFU. The vent section has one or more demisters and one or more vents for detraining water and providing a dry air exit from said WAFU. The air section has a water inlet ending in a spray nozzle near the top of the aeration section to turn incoming dirty water into water droplets and a forced air blower on a side or top of the aeration section for blowing air through said water droplets in rate sufficient to remove volatile organic compounds and precipitate manganese and iron. The aeration section also has one or more annular rings or partially annular baffles on an inside wall of the tank to force water from said inside wall into an interior of the tank. Thus, no water escapes aeration. A backwash collection trough and backwash water outlet are positioned above the filtration section for removing dirty backwash water from the unit. The filtration section has one or more filters therein and a drain and clean water outlet near its bottom for egress of clean water from said WAFU.
