VIBRATIONAL MICROCAVITY MODIFIED CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Provided herein are devices for utilizing vibrational strong coupling (VSC) in a chemical reaction comprising a reaction chamber defined in a housing, at least one inlet for introducing one or more reactants into the reaction chamber, at least one outlet for removing one or more reactants and/or one or more reaction products form the reaction chamber, and a window defined on opposed first and second sides of the housing and comprising a material which does not strongly absorb infrared radiation and arranged such that infrared radiation directed from a source outside of the housing can enter into the reaction chamber. Also provided are methods of modifying chemical reactions as well as catalyzing chemical reactions.
Devices and methods for curing nail gels
A nail gel curing device can include an outer housing, a base, a dome and a detachable tray. The housing, base, dome and tray define an irradiation chamber, an opening to said chamber for inserting a hand or foot of a user, and a space between the dome and housing. The irradiation chamber suitable for curing five nails of a user's hand or foot and the dome including a plurality of light emitting diodes for curing nails positioned in the irradiation chamber, and the space being sufficient to accommodate electronic or electric circuitry to operate the plurality of light emitting diodes in the curing device. A shield can be slidably attached to the device and the shield can be capable of reducing the opening's size by sliding from an open to a more closed position, said closing diminishing a user's secondary exposure to UV light exiting the device.
NEW PHOTOCHEMICAL REACTOR DESIGN AND PROCESS FOR PERFORMING EXOTHERMIC PHOTOCHEMICAL REACTIONS
A photochemical reactor and a photo-oxidation process for manufacturing organic compounds are disclosed. The photo-oxidation generates polyfluorochloro- and/or perfluorocarboxylic acid chloride compounds, in particular halogenated acetyl chlorides, such as polyfluorochloro- and/or perfluoro acetyl chloride. The photo-oxidation process is exothermic. The reactor has a channel or a channels system, including tubes, pipes, or coils, such as coiled tubes or pipes, and, optionally, gasket installations in combination with tubes/pipes, and interior installations, such as microtubes or micropipes. The interior installations avoid formation of hot spots and provide for very good mixing of the reaction medium, such that the photochemical reactions do not only take place in part of reaction medium within a few mm around the UV lighting source. Formation of oxidizing by-products is eliminated, which may otherwise be formed during the photochemical oxidation and possibly accumulate in the photochemical reactor and/or process equipment, such as cooling traps and piping systems.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR ENTRAPPING PROTEIN ON A SURFACE
The present invention provides a formulation to link protein to a solid support that comprises one or more proteins, Oligo-dT and one or more non-volatile, water-soluble protein solvents, solutes or combination thereof in an aqueous solution. Further provided is a method of attaching a protein to a surface of a substrate. The formulations provided herein are contacted onto the substrate surface, printed thereon and air dried. The substrate surface is irradiated with UV light to induce thymidine photochemical crosslinking via the thymidine moieties of the Oligo-dT.
Systems and methods for treating biological fluids
Provided are systems and methods for treating a biological fluid, e.g., to inactivate pathogens.
Processing materials
Biomass (e.g., plant biomass, animal biomass, and municipal waste biomass) is processed to produce useful intermediates and products, such as energy, fuels, foods or materials. For example, systems and methods are described that can be used to treat feedstock materials, such as cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic materials, while cooling equipment and the biomass to prevent overheating and possible distortion and/or degradation. The biomass is conveyed by a conveyor, which conveys the biomass under an electron beam from an electron beam accelerator. The conveyor can be cooled with cooling fluid. The conveyor can also vibrate to facilitate exposure to the electron beam. The conveyor can be configured as a trough that can be optionally cooled.
Mixed Decyl Mercaptans Compositions and Methods of Making Same
Compositions comprising branched C.sub.10 mercaptans selected from the group consisting of 5-methyl-1-mercapto-nonane, 3-propyl-1-mercapto-heptane, 4-ethyl-1-mercapto-octane, 2-butyl-1-mercapto-hexane, 5-methyl-2-mercapto-nonane, 3-propyl-2-mercapto-heptane, 4-ethyl-2-mercapto-octane, 5-methyl-5-mercapto-nonane, and combinations thereof.
LIQUID PROCESSING SYSTEM AND CONTROL METHOD
A liquid processing system has: processing units of n stages in which each processing unit includes one or a plurality of processing lines, each processing line includes an ultraviolet ray irradiating unit, and the number of processing lines of an m-th stage processing unit is larger than the number of processing lines of an m+1-th stage processing unit; and adjusting section which adjusts an output of an ultraviolet ray irradiating unit provided to a processing unit of a predetermined stage. An output of an ultraviolet ray irradiating unit provided to a processing unit of a stage other than the predetermined stage is each fixed, and the adjusting section adjusts the output of the let ray irradiating unit provided to the processing unit of the predetermined stage such that a liquid processed in an n-th stage processing unit of a final stage is in a desired processing state.
EQUIPMENT PROTECTING ENCLOSURES
Biomass (e.g., plant biomass, animal biomass, and municipal waste biomass) is processed to produce useful intermediates and products, such as energy, fuels, foods or materials. For example, systems and methods are described that can be used to treat feedstock materials, such as cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic materials, in a vault in which the equipment is protected from radiation and hazardous gases by equipment enclosures. The equipment enclosures may be purged with gas.
