Extracting desired organic compounds from plants with controlled microwave energy
Method and system for Improved quality of selected organic compounds extracted from plant material, which may be the whole plant, a selected portion thereof, or combined parts of the plant, by use of one or more adjustable microwave sources in a closed loop from output to input. The selected portions may be the seeds, pods, leaves, stalks or a combination of one or more of the parts.
Coating and lithiation of inorganic oxidants by reaction with lithiated reductants
A method for producing conductive carbon coated particles of an at least partially lithiated electroactive core material comprises the step of premixing an oxidant electroactive material with a metallated reductant followed by chemically reacting the oxidant electroactive material with the metallated reductant, said reductant being a coating precursor, said metal being at least one alkaline and/or at least one alkaline earth metal, and said chemically reacting being performed under conditions allowing reduction and metallation of the electroactive material via insertion/intercalation of the alkaline metal cation(s) and/or the alkaline earth metal cation(s) and coating formation via a polymerisation reaction like polyanionic or radicalic polymerisation of the reductant.
Heavy fossil hydrocarbon conversion and upgrading using radio-frequency or microwave energy
Conversion of heavy fossil hydrocarbons (HFH) to a variety of value-added chemicals and/or fuels can be enhanced using microwave (MW) and/or radio-frequency (RF) energy. Variations of reactants, process parameters, and reactor design can significantly influence the relative distribution of chemicals and fuels generated as the product. In one example, a system for flash microwave conversion of HFH includes a source concentrating microwave or RF energy in a reaction zone having a pressure greater than 0.9 atm, a continuous feed having HFH and a process gas passing through the reaction zone, a HFH-to-liquids catalyst contacting the HFH in at least the reaction zone, and dielectric discharges within the reaction zone. The HFH and the catalyst have a residence time in the reaction zone of less than 30 seconds. In some instances, a plasma can form in or near the reaction zone.
Low cost and fast method to massively produce graphene and graphene oxide with carbon-rich natural materials and the use of the same
This invention provides an innovative method to manufacture graphene layers or quantities and graphene oxide layers or quantities from graphite, coal slags, asphalt, and other carbon-rich sold materials in nature. The present invention uses controllable microwave irradiation to heat the mixtures of basic material, graphite, or coal slags, or asphalt, or their combinations with ionic liquids and surfactant plus environmentally friendly oxidation agents. This invention can generate the said-products of graphene layers and graphene oxides in a short time period of one second to 300 seconds. The present invention does not involve any concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid, nor huge water quantities needed for the purification, unlike the prior art. The as-produced graphene-based materials can be used for preparing conductive films for touch screens, producing graphene carbon fibers and three-dimensional porous graphene nanomaterials, and preparing graphene-based other intelligent nanocomposites for super-light-weight machines and vehicles.
MICROWAVE PYROLYSIS REACTOR
The present invention provides a microwave pyrolysis reactor (1) comprising an inner pipe element (2), a microwave distribution element (3) and a housing (4), wherein the inner pipe element (2) is made of a microwave transparent material and comprises a first open end (5) and a second open end (6); the microwave distribution element (3) is made of a material not transparent to microwaves and is arranged around the inner pipe element (2), and comprises at least one opening (8) for allowing passage of microwaves into the inner pipe element (2); the housing (4) comprises a first inner surface enclosing a first annular space (9) around the microwave distribution element (3) and a port (13) for a microwave waveguide (14) in communication with the first annular space; and wherein the microwave distribution element is in thermal conductive contact with a heat exchange system for removal of heat from the microwave pyrolysis reactor during use.
Microwave Methods for Converting Hydrocarbon-Based Waste Materials into Oil and Gas Fuels
A portable, sustainable, and efficient system and apparatus for breaking down processed solid plastic waste and other polymer-based feedstock into fuel oil, sustainable energy, carbon char, and other useful products. With minor modifications, biomass can also be treated. Distributed microwave heating sources and mechanical mixing effectively mix heat in a highly insulated reactor that protects the microwave components, makes fast pyrolysis possible, and thereby enables scaling down to compact and highly portable systems. Products include diesel, gasoline, propane, butane, and char. Product materials are distributed using tight temperature control and mechanical routing.
