PRESSURE-RELEASE VESSEL WITH RIGID PROPORTIONAL LINER AND ASSOCIATED MICROWAVE-ASSISTED CHEMISTRY METHODS
20200290001 · 2020-09-17 · ·

A structural improvement for microwave-assisted high temperature high-pressure chemistry vessel systems is disclosed that among other advantages offers dynamic venting and resealing while a reaction proceeds and eliminates the risk of cross contamination associated with systems that use a common pressurized chamber. The improvement includes a relatively thin-walled disposable liner cylinder that includes one closed end and one open end defining a mouth, and a liner cap positioned in the mouth of the rigid liner cylinder for closing the rigid liner cylinder. The liner cap includes a depending column that engages the inside diameter of the rigid liner cylinder, and a disk at one end of the depending column having a diameter sufficient to rest upon the rigid liner cylinder without falling into the rigid cylinder liner so that the cylindrical liner cap can rest in the rigid liner cylinder at the mouth of the rigid liner cylinder. The depending column, includes a passage to provide a gas venting space, and a dynamic venting action, between the liner cap and the rigid liner cylinder.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLABLE STORAGE OF HYDROGEN
20200270126 · 2020-08-27 ·

A method and apparatus for controlling hydrogen gas storage in a clathrate hydrate structure through application of an electromagnetic field. The applied field can be used to control release of gas from the clathrate hydrate structure and/or uptake of gas into the clathrate hydrate structure. The electromagnetic field is arranged to promote hopping of gas molecules between and out of retaining pockets in the clathrate lattice by stimulating vibrations in the lattice that cause apertures into the retaining pockets to flex open. Advantageously, the electromagnetic field may have properties that are selected to promote an increase in the rate gas release or gas uptake without causing dissociation of the lattice. In this scenario, the invention can provide an energy-efficient, rechargeable on-demand supply system for any gas that can be retained within a clathrate hydrate structure.

Remediation of contaminated soil and water using enhanced stimulators

A contaminated medium (such as soil and/or groundwater) contaminated with petrogenic and/or other organic contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons, light non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs), persistent organic pollutants (i.e. sulfolane), chlorinated compounds, and volatile organic compounds, can be mixed with enhanced stimulators and be thermally remediated. The enhanced stimulators are heat induced to undergo exothermic reactions, which initiate a series of in-situ chemical reactions to such as to produce hydrogen gas. The hydrogen gas causes hydrocracking of heavy hydrocarbons to produce light hydrocarbons which can be recovered such as for future use.
