Methods and apparatus for fluid contacting in a downflow vessel
A contacting device and method are presented for the collection, contacting, and distribution of fluids between particulate beds of a downflow vessel, which may operate in co-current flow. By one approach, the contacting device includes a liquid collection tray, a mixing channel in fluid communication with the liquid collection tray, and a liquid distribution zone.
Apparatus and method for converting liquid stream into fine droplets
An apparatus and a method for mixing and atomizing a hydrocarbon stream is disclosed. The apparatus comprises of an inner conduit having a first inlet for receiving the hydrocarbon stream, and a second inlet for receiving a primary dispersion stream. The inner conduit produces a primary mixture comprising the hydrocarbon stream and the primary dispersion stream. The apparatus further includes an outer conduit having a third inlet for receiving a secondary dispersion stream. Further, said inner and outer conduits together define an annular passage. The distal end of the annular passage defines a second set of orifices for allowing the secondary dispersion stream flowing there-through to come in contact with the primary mixture and thereby dispensing the secondary mixture so obtained through an outlet.
Carbon monoxide oxidation device
A carbon monoxide oxidation device for oxidizing carbon monoxide contained in a hydrogen rich reformat gas includes a gas stream perturbation device designed as at least one propeller-shaped plate with a plate portion having a surface facing the gas stream and at least one blade which is connected to the plate portion and has a leading edge and an effluent edge, wherein a surface defined between leading edge and effluent edge is inclined in relation to the surface of the plate portion with a predetermined blade inclination angle, thereby defining at least one opening in the plate.
Mixing device situated above the distribution zone
Device for mixing and distributing fluids for a downflow catalytic reactor, comprising: a collecting zone (A) comprising a collecting means (5); a substantially vertical collecting pipe and at least one injection means (8) opening into said collecting pipe; a mixing zone (B) comprising a fluid mixing chamber (15) of length L1, said mixing zone (15) comprising a first end in communication with said collecting pipe and a second end in communication with a fluid exchange chamber (16) of length L2, situated beneath said mixing chamber (15), the length L2 of said exchange chamber (16) being strictly greater than the length L1 of said mixing chamber (15); a distribution zone (C), situated beneath the mixing zone (B), comprising a distribution plate (12) that carries a plurality of chimneys (13), and a plurality of horizontal panels (33), situated above or on the chimneys (13).
Alcohol reformer for reforming alcohol to mixture of gas including hydrogen
Reforming alcohol is disclosed. Alcohol is introduced into a conduit of an alcohol reformer so that the alcohol flows through a catalyst stage within the conduit. The catalyst stage includes an alcohol reforming catalyst, and a heat transfer member comprising thermally conductive material. The heat transfer member is in thermal contact with the conduit and the alcohol reforming catalyst. Simultaneously, exhaust gas is introduced from an internal combustion engine into an exhaust channel. The exhaust gas in the exhaust channel contacts fins extending outward from the conduit so that heat from the exhaust gas is transferred through the fins, the conduit, and the heat transfer member to the alcohol reforming catalyst.
Method for producing unsaturated aldehyde and unsaturated carboxylic acid
The present invention relates to a method for producing unsaturated aldehydes and unsaturated carboxylic acids. According to the present invention, a method for producing unsaturated aldehydes and unsaturated carboxylic acids which can impart activity and control temperature independently in fixed catalyst layer zones in a shell-and-tube reactor, thereby exhibiting improved yield and operation stability, is provided.
Method for producing acrolein and/or acrylic acid from glycerol
The invention relates to the production of acrolein and/or acrylic acid from glycerol, and more particularly to a method for continuous production of a stream comprising acrolein by dehydration of glycerol, comprising cycles of reaction and regeneration of a dehydration catalyst.
FLUID CATALYTIC REACTORS WHICH INCLUDE FLOW DIRECTORS
According to one or more embodiments, a fluid catalytic reactor may include a riser, a lower reactor portion, a transition portion, and a flow director. The riser may include a cross-sectional area, and the lower reactor portion may include a cross-sectional area. The transition portion may attach the riser to the lower reactor portion. The cross-sectional area of the riser may be less than the cross-sectional area of the lower reactor portion such that the transition portion is tapered inward from the lower reactor portion to the riser. The flow director may be positioned at least within an interior region of the transition portion. The flow director may include a body which affects the velocity profile of fluids moving from the lower reactor portion to the riser.
Tapered conduits for reactors
An apparatus is provided for directing a fluid in a radial reactor comprising: a vertically elongated conduit comprising a front face comprising a surface comprising apertures, two side faces, and a rear face and two ends, wherein an end of the front face and an end of the rear face are a distance D1 apart and wherein a second opposite end of the front face and a second corresponding end of the rear face are a distance D2 apart wherein D1 is greater than D2 and wherein a riser are connected to a top surface of said vertically elongated conduit to allow a gas stream to flow through the riser to the vertically elongated conduit.
