PACKING FOR USE IN A MASS TRANSFER COLUMN
A packing module for use in a mass transfer column has a plurality of packing elements positioned in an upright, parallel relationship to each other. Each packing element has a plurality of side-by-side and parallel longitudinal rows of arched outer rib elements that are connected at opposite ends to spaced apart side strips. The outer rib elements project outwardly in opposite directions from the side strips. In an upper edge region and a lower edge region at least one of the side strips in each longitudinal row converges toward the other side strip. The convergence of the side strips causes a reduction in length and outward projection of the outer rib elements that are connected at opposite ends to the converging side strips. The longitudinal rows of outer rib elements in adjacent packing elements are arranged in crisscrossing relationship to each other.
Electric steam cracker
A reactor system and a process for carrying out steam cracking of a feed gas comprising hydrocarbons is provided, i where the heat for the reaction is provided by resistance heating by means of electrical power, so that a product stream comprising at least one olefin compound is obtained.
Specialized immobilization media
A genre of media is presented for use with a reactor vessel and for the purpose of immobilizing small particles, often catalytic in nature. The media can include a number of ferromagnetic active wafers stacked together and separated by non-ferromagnetic separator portions, such that when in the presence of a magnetic field and magnetic-particle-containing fluid, at least some of the gaps between active wafers captures and suspends magnetic particles.
METHOD OF MANUFACTURING PACKING AND PACKING
A method of manufacturing packing includes: determining types of a gas and a liquid which are brought into gas-liquid contact and a main plate to be used; calculating a relationship between a contact angle and a liquid film length ratio; determining the arrangement (intervals) of a rib; determining rib conditions; calculating the minimum value of the flow direction length of the rib satisfying the contact angle and a strength requirement; confirming whether or not a liquid film length is greater than the minimum value; and determining the flow direction length of the rib within a range from the minimum value to the liquid film length.
Structured cross-channel packing element with reduced material requirement
A structured cross-channel packing element for a column for at least one of mass transfer and heat exchange between a heavy fluid phase and a light fluid phase. The structured cross-channel packing element comprises at least two adjacent layers made of expanded metal sheets each comprising openings that are surrounded and separated from each other by separating elements. At least two of layers are arranged in a longitudinal direction parallel and in touching contact with each other such that an open space extending from one end to an opposite end of the layers is provided between the layers such that at least one of the heavy fluid phase and the light fluid phase may flow therethrough. A ratio between an average width of at least 50% of the separating elements between adjacent ones of the openings and a sheet material thickness is at least 15.
CHEMICAL FLOW-REACTOR
A chemical flow reactor comprising: a housing having an inlet and an outlet; at least one heat exchange pipe extending through the interior of the housing; a space defined between the interior surface of the housing and the outer surface of Gas Flow the at least one pipe, said space being in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet; and a plurality of plates stacked within said space forming a stacked plate assembly between the inlet and the outlet, each plate comprising at least one hole through which the at least one pipe extends such that the at least one pipe extends through the stacked plate assembly. An active chemical, such as a catalyst, is disposed on each plate.
STRUCTURED PACKING
A corrugated structured packing sheet has the combination of corrugations that include a curve formed in the geometry of the corrugations in the lower edge region of the structured packing sheet and a surface texturing on opposite faces of the structured packing sheet that are in the form of a grid of indented and raised structures. Each indented structure is separated from some or all of adjacent ones of the indented structures by the raised structures. The raised structures form rows of peaks and interconnecting saddles. Microchannels extend along adjacent ones of the indented structures and the interconnecting saddles. The surface texturing caused an unexpected performance improvement when used with the curved geometry of the corrugations in the lower edge region.
