The upper rotor (30) comprises a plurality of hammers (40) pointing down, to the outer perimeter of the lower rotor (20) discharging the material to be crushed at high speed. Each hammer (40) has a support shaft (41) that extends vertically between the first disc (31) and the second disc (32). The distance between the first disc (31) and the second disc (32) provides torsional structure to the connection between the hammer and the upper rotor (30).

Each hammer (40) has a support shaft (41) that extends vertically between the first disc (31) and the second disc (32). The distance between the first disc (31) and the second disc (32) provides torsional structure to the connection between the hammer and the upper rotor (30). The upper rotor (30) is configured to be tilted into a service position, wherein the service position is tilted between 90 degrees and 180 degrees from a crushing position.

A multistage hammer mill (10) has a plurality of milling stages arranged concentrically about each other. The plurality of milling stages arranged so that substantially all material in a first inner most of the milling stages passes through all subsequent adjacent milling stages. The milling stages include a first milling stage and a second milling stage. A central feed opening (12) enables material flow into a primary impact zone (14) of the first milling stage. The first milling stage has an impact mechanism (16) and a first screen arrangement (20a). The impact mechanism (16) rotates about a rotation axis (18). The first screen arrangement (20a) is disposed circumferentially about and radially spaced from the impact mechanism (16) and is provided with a plurality of apertures (22) through which impacted material of a first size range can pass. The second milling stage has a second arrangement (20b) disposed circumferentially about and radially spaced from the first screen arrangement (20a) and a circular array of impact elements (50a) disposed between the first screen arrangement (20a) and the second screen arrangement (20b).

A device and a method for processing feed material that has a housing, a material supply channel and a material discharge. The housing is axially divided into a first processing zone in which a rotor rotating around an axis is situated, and a second processing zone which adjoins the first processing zone in the flow direction of the feed material. In order to perform different processing procedures in one device the feed material is subject to a process gas by arranging a hollow body in the housing, coaxially to the axis for the formation of the second processing zone, which outer circumference is radially situated opposite the inner circumference of the housing, and which features at least one port at the end that is facing the rotor. A process gas, which can be fed to the feed material through at least one port, is applied to the hollow body.
