Method and system for spray drying insects

In some examples, a system may be configured to generating flour having a uniform particle size of less than 100 Microns from whole insects. For example, the may include generating a slurry from whole insects by adding water while blending the whole insects using one or more mixers to generate an insect slurry. In some cases, the water is added to the insect parts to reduce the viscosity and to assist in separating the whole insects into parts. In some cases, the insect slurry may be filtered.

A process for producing a corn flour-based food product preservative free in a retortable packaging, which comprises preparing a mixture of corn flour and a fatty component, and adding to said mixture a meat product or stew and other minor ingredients. The prepared mixture is added to a sterilizable pouch which is sealed and subjected to a sterilization process including a heating, sterilization or holding and a cooling stage, and under conditions of determined pressure and times.

Chips infused with meat are produced according to the disclosed method. The method includes preparing a dough mixture by mixing at least one of a grain component and a vegetable component with water in a mixer and transporting the dough mixture from the mixer into an extruder. In the extruder, a ground meat product is introduced into the dough mixture to form a meat-infused dough mixture which is then extruded and cooked to make the chips. Typically, after extrusion, the meat-infused dough mixture will be cut and fried.

The present disclosure describes a method for producing insect and water mixture comprising providing and splitting a feedstock, introducing the feedstock into a plurality of insect feeding chambers to feed insects, removing insects from the plurality of insect feeding chambers, and introducing the insects to a mixing tank to produce the insect and water mixture including a biocatalyst and fermenting the insects for specific time durations, temperatures, pH, treated water, acid, a caustic material, and wherein the mixing tank is equipped with a mixer, baffles, and a heat exchanger. The insects may be grown with specific a feedstock diets, breeding methods, within shipping containers, and various operating and product parameters. The insect and water mixture can be filtered, spray dried, shaped, cooked, flavored, and used to prepare multifunctional flour compositions and foodstuffs.
