Hydrostatic extrusion system and method for producing high strength seamless pipes
10413951 · 2019-09-17 ·

A system and method for producing a seamless pipe from a hollow billet with a smaller diameter than the seamless pipe, uses a pressure container configured to house the hollow billet. The hollow billet is surrounded by a fluid. A movable punch arranged to fit inside the hollow billet, wherein a hydraulic pressure is transferred from the fluid to the movable punch and to the hollow billet simultaneously, along at least a partial length of the hollow billet. A die opening is arranged serial to the pressure container, wherein the die opening is configured to house a fixed mandrel, the fixed mandrel having a diameter larger than an inner diameter of the hollow billet, so that a gap is formed between the die opening and the fixed mandrel, and the hydraulic pressure of the fluid is generated by an input force from an input punch to move the hollow billet towards the die opening and force the hollow billet material into the gap between the die opening and the fixed mandrel.

STRUCTURAL MEMBER

The disclosure aims to provide a structural member made of an extruded material that effectively helps to reduce weight while ensuring strength and rigidity. The structural member has a varied wall thickness along an extrusion direction.

HYDROFORMING OF PORTHOLE EXTRUSION WITH NON-EQUIANGULAR SEAMS

A method of forming a part includes extruding a billet through a die, forming a round, closed geometry tube from the billet, and hydroforming the round, closed geometry tube. The extrusion die contains an orifice with a central mandrel, a plurality of bridges, and a corresponding plurality of portholes between the bridges. A spacing of the bridges around the mandrel is non-equiangular. As a result, the round, closed geometry tube has non-equiangular welds after emerging from the die.

HEAT EXCHANGERS, HEAT EXCHANGER TUBES, AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING COLD SPRAY PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

Methods are disclosed for fabricating heat exchangers and Heat Exchanger (HX) tubes, as are heat exchangers fabricated in accordance with such methods. In embodiments, the method includes the steps or processes of obtaining a Non-Equilibrium Alloy (NEA) feedstock powder comprised of an alloy matrix throughout which at least one minority constituent is dispersed. The first minority constituent precipitates from the alloy matrix when the NEA feedstock powder is exposed to temperatures exceeding a critical temperature threshold (T.sub.CRITICAL) for a predetermined time period. A cold spray process is carried-out to at least partially form the HX tubes from the NEA feedstock powder; and the HX tubes are subsequently installed in the heat exchanger. The HX tubes are exposed to a maximum temperature (T.sub.SPRAY_MAX) during the cold spray process, which is maintained below T.sub.CRITICAL to substantially preserve the non-equilibrium state of the NEA feedstock powder through cold spray deposition.

Method of forming extruded tubing for vehicle body component

A method is disclosed for forming an aluminum alloy vehicle body component. An aluminum alloy billet is extruded into an aluminum tube that includes longitudinal weld seams formed in a sidewall of the tube during extrusion. A weld seam locating pip is also formed on a sidewall of the tube during extrusion. The pip is used to locate the weld seams during manufacturing of the body component.

Copper alloy tube with excellent high-temperature brazeability and manufacturing method therefor

Provided is a copper alloy tube that is a drawn tube made from a CuCrZr alloy which suppresses the deterioration of mechanical strength and, in particular, the coarsening of crystal grains even in a temperature zone of a solutionizing treatment, and is thus excellent in high-temperature brazeability, as well as the manufacturing method therefor. The manufacturing method comprises a solutionizing step of heating and holding a tubular extrusion material at a solutionizing temperature of 900 C. or greater and then water-quenching the tubular extrusion material; a main process step comprising a set of steps including a drawing process step of drawing the tubular extrusion material, and an intermediate annealing step of heating at an annealing temperature and then water-quenching the drawn material; and an adjusting process step of further drawing the drawn material and setting average crystal grain sizes in a vertical cross section along an axis as well as a horizontal cross section orthogonal to the axis to 50 m or less each. The average crystal grain sizes of the vertical cross section and the horizontal cross section are each set to 100 m or greater and the annealing temperature is set to 900 C. or greater after the solutionizing step, thereby making it possible to make the average crystal grain sizes of the vertical cross section and the horizontal cross section 100 m or less after the adjusting process step, even if heating is performed at at least 980 C. for 30 minutes followed by air-cooling.
