Glass device housings
An electronic device may have a glass housing structures. The glass housing structures may be used to cover a display and other internal electronic device components. The glass housing structure may have multiple glass pieces that are joined using a glass fusing process. A peripheral glass member may be fused along the edge of a planar glass member to enhance the thickness of the edge. A rounded edge feature may be formed by machining the thickened edge. Raised fused glass features may surround openings in the planar glass member. Multiple planar glass members may be fused together to form a five-sided box in which electronic components may be mounted. Raised support structure ribs may be formed by fusing glass structures to a planar glass member. Opaque masking material and colored glass may be used to create portions of the glass housing structures that hide internal device components from view.

Glass sheets and methods of shaping glass sheets
Methods of shaping a glass sheet each include a step of removing a first portion of the glass sheet to form a first beveled surface. The methods further include the step of removing a second portion of the glass sheet to form a second beveled surface. The methods still further include the step of removing a third portion of the glass sheet comprising a remainder of an end surface of an edge portion of the glass sheet. In further examples, glass sheets are also provided with a first bevel surface intersecting a first glass-sheet surface and an apex surface, and a second bevel surface intersecting a second glass-sheet surface and the apex surface. The glass sheet exhibits a probability of failure of less than 5% at an edge stress of 135 MPa.
Method for fabricating thin sheets of glass
Fabrication of thin sheets of glass or other substrate material for use in devices such as touch sensor panels is disclosed. A pair of thick glass sheets, typically with thicknesses of 0.5 mm or greater each, may each be patterned with thin film on a surface, sealed together to form a sandwich with the patterned surfaces facing each other and spaced apart by removable spacers, either or both thinned on their outside surfaces to thicknesses of less than 0.5 mm each, and separated into two thin glass sheets. A single thick glass sheet, typically with a thickness of 0.5 mm or greater, may be patterned, covered with a protective layer over the pattern, thinned on its outside surface to a thickness of less than 0.5 mm, and the protective layer removed. This thinness of less than 0.5 mm may be accomplished using standard LCD equipment, despite the equipment having a sheet minimum thickness requirement of 0.5 mm.
GLASS TREATMENT APPARATUS AND METHODS OF TREATING GLASS
A glass treatment apparatus comprise at least one upstream working device including a working wheel configured to rotate such that a working surface of the working wheel machines a surface portion of a glass sheet. The glass treatment apparatus further includes a downstream working device includes a working wheel comprising a cleaning wheel. In further examples, methods of treating glass comprise the step of machining a surface portion of a glass sheet with a working surface of a first rotating working wheel and the step of machining the surface portion of the glass sheet with a working surface of a second rotating working wheel comprising a cleaning wheel.
Substrate polishing apparatus
A substrate polishing apparatus including a stage configured to load a substrate, the stage having a flat surface, which is parallel to a first direction and a second direction, and on which the substrate is loaded, a pressing unit configured to exert a pressure on the substrate in a third direction, a rotary unit configured to revolve the pressing unit around a central axis parallel to the third direction, when viewed in a plan view, a plurality of polishing pads provided between the pressing unit and the substrate to be in contact with the substrate, and a nozzle part configured to supply a slurry onto the substrate. The polishing pads may be spaced apart from each other in a direction and may have a rectangular shape in the plan view.
Abrading with an abrading plate
A method of abrading the surface of a workpiece is disclosed. The method includes providing a workpiece, an abrading apparatus with a backing pad configured to receive an abrading plate, an abrading plate attachable to the backing pad and a slurry including abrasive grains; attaching the abrading plate to the backing pad; providing the slurry including abrasive grains between the abrading plate and the surface of the workpiece; and operating the abrading apparatus to abrade the surface of the workpiece. Therein, the abrading plate includes a workpiece-facing layer, which workpiece-facing layer faces the surface of the workpiece and includes a metal or a polymer, and the abrasive grains have a hardness on the Mohs scale of greater than 5.
